The new Liyue 4-Star character in Genshin Impact is named Lanyan, and her splash art has finally given players their first look at the character. The latest beta build for Genshin Impact has opened the floodgates, as Version 5.3 appears to have four characters in store for the community. Though Citlali and Mavuika were practically confirmed to make their debut in the update, Version 5.3 will also feature the Pyro Traveler and Lanyan. Out of the four characters, Lanyan is considered by many to be the most mysterious.
While Madame Ping was heavily rumored to feature in the upcoming Lantern Rite, it would appear that previous leaks mixed up Lanyan with Streetward Rambler herself. Lanyan is a 4-star Anemo Polearm character, and she is expected to accompany Citlali in Genshin Impact on the Event Banners during the second half of Version 5.3.

Genshin Impact Leaks Mavuika’s Splash Art
Despite a delay in her drip marketing, Genshin Impact players can take a look at Mavuika’s exciting splash art thanks to a recent leak.
The new splash art was shared by Seele Leaks via Uncle Teyvat, showing a Medium Female model wielding chakrams and clad in an Anemo-colored outfit. What makes Lanyan a unique Genshin Impact character is that she appears to be the first Anemo Shield Support in the game. This means that Lanyan can both activate the bonuses of the Viridescent Venerer and provide interruption resistance via her shield.
Genshin Impact: Lanyan’s Ability Kit Explained
As a 4-star character in Genshin Impact, Lanyan will likely struggle to compete with Citlali as a Shield Support. According to the latest beta build, Lanyan’s shield will only last for 8 seconds at a 16-second cooldown, meaning that players will only have 50% uptime on the damage absorption and interruption resistance. At a base Constellation level, this makes Lanyan a bit underwhelming compared to other Shield Supports such as Kirara and Layla. However, her sixth Constellation grants two uses of the Elemental Skill, raising the uptime to 100% for the first 16 seconds of an encounter.
It remains to be seen how the new character’s chakrams will be incorporated into gameplay, given Lanyan’s status as a Polearm character in Genshin Impact. However, as seen with Chevreuse in Version 4.3, this isn’t the first time that the developers have attempted to skirt around Genshin Impact‘s weapon-type restrictions when creating a new character. As was the case with Gaming in Version 4.4, players can expect to interact with Lanyan during the upcoming Lantern Rite event. They will also be able to obtain a free copy of the character for the duration of the Lantern Rite. Version 5.3 is set to launch on January 1, 2025.
