Fortnite Snags 2 Nominations at the Game Awards 2024

At the Game Awards 2024, Fortnite has been nominated for two awards. It’s not a brand-new game, but it did get recognized in two categories that it has been featured in over the years. It’s one of the most prominent and popular video games out there, so it’s not entirely surprising that it landed a couple of nods from TGA. Here’s what it earned and who it’s up against in 2024.

Fortnite’s Two Game Awards Nominations

Since Fortnite is a live service game, it makes sense for it to be nominated in the “Best Ongoing Game” category. It is up against some heavy hitters, though, including Destiny 2, Diablo IV, Final Fantasy 14, and Helldivers 2. Destiny 2 has had a string of major updates recently, and the other games have dedicated communities as well. Fortnite has been innovating constantly as well, such as the first-person perspective mode.

Helldivers 2 may be the favorite in this category. Many expected it to get a Game of the Year nod from the Game Awards and consider it one of the biggest snubs. Therefore, it stands a good chance of taking home this award. It took the world by storm and dominated the multiplayer space for a while. It did something very rare in the gaming sphere and is likely going to take home some hardware.

The Game Awards also nominated Fortnite for Best Community Support. It is up against Baldur’s Gate 3, Final Fantasy 14, Helldivers 2, and No Man’s Sky. Again, Helldivers 2 is a major player in this category. However, Epic Games has done a wonderful job of providing support for exactly what the community wants.

They’ve added Remix for a season, taking players back to Chapter 2. They also committed to reintroducing OG as a permanent mode, something the community has begged for since last year. It still has some challenging opponents in this space, but there’s a better chance of it working out here.

Past Nominations

Fortnite has been nominated before. It was up for Best Multiplayer Game in 2017. It won Best Multiplayer Game and Best Ongoing Game in 2018 and was up for Best Esports Game and Best Mobile Game that year.

The game won Best Ongoing Game in 2019 and was nominated for Best Esports Event (Fortnite World Cup), Best Esports Game, and Best Community Sport. During the following year, Fortnite was nominated for Best Ongoing Game, Best Community Support, and Best Esports Game again.
