With just one day of action left in the EU RMR A, FaZe and NAVI have joined MOUZ and Vitality as part of the contingent of qualified teams at the PW Shanghai Major 2024. This means that all of the teams you’d have nailed down as dead certs to qualify before the EU RMR A have all made it through without too much trouble. They’re not the only interesting storyline in play here, so let’s dive in.
FaZe and NAVI make it 3:1
It wouldn’t be a CS2 Major without FaZe and NAVI, the two finalists of this year’s PGL Major Copenhagen. Good news – we don’t have to live in that world, with both teams making it through the PW Shanghai Major 2024 EU RMR A in the 3:1 bracket. While NAVI’s victory against SAW was enough to see them get instant qualification to the Elimination Stage, FaZe had to beat both Fnatic and Cloud9 to get to the same point due to how seeding works in this Major.
As much as we love an underdog story, it’s good to see that we’ll be getting to see the best CS2 teams in the world at the PW Shanghai Major 2024. That’s the case from EU RMR A, at least, with EU RMR B up next in a few days’ time.
Falcons fall flat (again)
Falcons have crashed out of the race for Major qualification after falling 2:1 to GamerLegion. This marks the end of a truly embarrassing year for Falcons, who at no point throughout 2024 have looked even remotely competitive. Two failures to qualify for Majors for this roster this year are just the tip of the iceberg of the problems with this roster.
The silver lining is that this core will finally be put out of its misery in the coming weeks. We spoke at length yesterday about how much of a disaster this was for Falcons, but the crux of it is this: we won’t be seeing this team play together again. Against GamerLegion, with everything on the line, they looked uninspired with some truly terrible T-sides. We still like these players as individuals, but going their separate ways is the best move now.
The rest of the bracket for the PW Shanghai Major 2024 EU RMR A going into the final day looks like this:
