Yesterday, Geoff Keighley revealed all of The Game Awards nominees for this year’s ceremony, and while Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree stirred up controversy for its unheard of Game of the Year nomination, fans are hungry for more.
Briana White, Hannah Telle, Humberly González, Luke Roberts, and Melina Juergens were all nominated for Best Performance, but fans argue that Richard Lintern deserved a nod for Igon, the impassioned dragon slayer who screams “CURSE YOU BAYLE” as he’s summoned to fight one of the expansion’s hardest bosses.
You’re lucky if he doesn’t die two seconds later, but at least he has that go get ’em attitude.
CURSE YOU GAME AWARDS,” Reddit user Ayanelixer posted. “This character right here has made me feel so much raw emotion, robbing my man Richard was shi**y”.
Was There Enough Igon For A Nom?
A big point of contention among fans, however, is whether Lintern’s role was too small to be included.
Every nomination in this category is made up of lead actors. We have the stars of Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2, Star Wars: Outlaws, Life is Strange: Double Exposure, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, and Silent Hill 2. If Igon were to be included, he’d be the only side character.
Fans are also upset that Shadow of the Erdtree wasn’t nominated for Best Score & Music.
“It wouldn’t be fair to nominate him when compared to the others he’s got little to no screentime,” Glittering_Pear356 argued.
“Doesn’t matter if someone gives the performance of a lifetime, if they have like 15 lines they absolutely should not be nominated,” ihvanhater420 replied.
However, some argue that Igon becoming such an icon among FromSoftware games with so few lines is just further proof that he deserves the nod.
You can argue it was a small role, yeah, but the fact he made a small role have so much impact on the game and community is why he should have been at least nominated,” negativeonhand said.

It’s a pretty monumental decision.
“Such a small performance compared to the other nominees, but so much more impactful,” cancerdancer added. “I’m betting he wins some awards in the [coming] years.”
Regardless, Shadow of the Erdtree (again, a DLC) already has a few nominations. It’s up for Best Art Direction, Best Role Playing Game, Best Game Direction, and the top prize of GOTY. Given that most people were surprised to find out that expansions are even eligible, that’s impressive.
Shadow of the Erdtree is the first and only DLC expansion for FromSoftware’s groundbreaking Elden Ring. It takes players to a whole new region, the Land of Shadow, where a new story awaits the Tarnished.
