Disney Dreamlight Valley Should Be Watching an Upcoming Movie Very Closely

Disney has several movies slated for the upcoming year from all the many properties it has under its umbrella. However, Disney Dreamlight Valley has remained focused on Disney Animation Studios and Pixar when choosing characters to add to its roster. Because of this, it would be unsurprising if Disney Dreamlight Valley looked at upcoming films from these studios specifically when considering character additions.

While some Disney fans are discouraged by the number of sequels or franchise additions being released by Disney, this spells great news for Disney Dreamlight Valley. Rather than adding entirely new stories to the game, Disney Dreamlight Valley could hypothetically expand upon existing characters and franchises within the game. Such is the case with Disney Animation Studios’ latest release, Moana 2.

Disney Dreamlight Valley has traditionally added characters from Disney Animation Studios and Pixar, but one upcoming movie could change this

Moana 2 Could Expand the Franchise’s Role in Disney Dreamlight Valley

Moana 2 takes place three years after the first film. The upcoming sequel sees Moana reuniting with Maui as she accepts an unexpected call from her ancestors. With a new crew, Moana and Maui journey across the seas of Oceania to break a curse on the island of Motufetu, placed by a god named Nalo. The film will expand Moana’s mythology through its new challenging villains and feature songs from Barlow and Bear of The Unofficial Bridgerton Musical fame rather than Lin-Manuel Miranda.

Both Moana and Maui are characters in Disney Dreamlight Valley. The film, now a franchise, is well established in the game, both with the characters and their respective plot lines, but also in motifs, furniture, and items. It’s even one of the few franchises to have its own realm.

Disney Dreamlight Valley has expanded upon films and franchises it has added in-game previously. For example, the Jungle Getaway update added Timon and Pumbaa from The Lion King as characters to the game, despite Simba and Nala being added in a previous update. This shows that Disney Dreamlight Valley is unafraid of doubling down on representation.

Gameloft and Disney could easily repeat this move for Moana 2, adding not just new motifs, furniture, and other items based on the film, but even new characters. The film’s secondary antagonist Matangi has been teased as a formidable foe that Moana and her allies will have to face up against. Disney Dreamlight Valley loves to add villains, so this move would be unsurprising.

Additions From Moana 2 Would Have to Come at a Later Date

However, Moana 2 is set to release on November 27. With the film’s release date so close, and details of Disney Dreamlight Valley’s next update already announced, it seems unlikely that Gameloft and Disney are collaborating on any promotion for Moana 2. This doesn’t disqualify Moana 2 from being added to Disney Dreamlight Valley in the future, of course. Depending on how popular the film is with audiences, it would be unsurprising to see characters from the film make an appearance in the Valley.

Disney Dreamlight Valley’s 2025 Plans

As for Disney Dreamlight Valley’s upcoming updates, the game’s 2025 free-to-play roadmap has teased characters from Aladdin, Alice in Wonderland, and Peter Pan. Additionally, Gameloft announced new DLC for Disney Dreamlight Valley that will release in two parts.

Disney Dreamlight Valley’s upcoming Storybook Vale DLC will have its first drop on November 20. “Welcome to the Vale” will add Hades from Hercules, Merida from Brave, and Flynn Rider from Tangled to Disney Dreamlight Valley. Storybook Vale’s second half, “The Unwritten Realms”, will add Maleficent from Sleeping Beauty. Further details about the contents of this second drop are still in the dark, though it’s confirmed that it will be released in Summer 2025.

With so many character specific announcements from Disney Dreamlight Valley being released so recently, it’s unlikely that new characters from Moana 2 will be added to the game as part of promotion. Nevertheless, Gameloft and Disney should monitor the film’s success when considering what additions should be added to Disney Dreamlight Valley.
