Cross is Prime Video‘s latest crime series, starring Aldis Hodge as the eponymous forensic detective, Alex Cross. The show is based on characters created by James Patterson in his successful book series, but the plot does not derive from any of his books, with a brand-new story for fans to indulge in. Season 1 was a deliciously gritty story that saw Alex Cross track down a serial killer called Fanboy, while also trying to come to terms with the death of his wife.
Cross season 2 has already been commissioned by Amazon, and the first season definitely sets it up, with so many loose ends still needing to be tied up, despite a resolution to the main story involving Fanboy, and the subplot involving the murder of Alex Cross’ wife. Season 2 doesn’t have a release date as yet, but it is likely to drop sometime in 2025.

How Does Cross Season 1 End?
With Nana Mama fighting for her life in hospital, Elle is looking after Alex Cross’ three children, while he tracks down the Fanboy killer. They take refuge at Damon’s music teacher, Miss Nancy’s deserted cabin. However, it is discovered that Miss Nancy is Peter Lenox’s mother and accomplice, and holds the family hostage. She gives him four hours to come alone in order to save his family. But Cross enlists the help of his partner John Sampson to help save his family, and they head to the cabin.
You had me at mother f****r
Elle and the children try to escape, but they are tracked down by Miss Nancy, who shoots at them and brings them back inside the cabin. Cross and Sampson arrive at the location, but split up. Nancy pulls a gun on Cross as he approaches the cabin, while Samspon is shot by Peter as he’s trying to make his way there. Peter Lenox comes in and announces that Sampson is dead, which provokes Cross, and he attacks him, but Peter gets the better of him, and he ties him up again. Nancy tries to make Cross decide which of his kids to kill, but the detective successfully gets in Peter’s head, which bides him some time. Sampson storms in, very much alive, and joins forces with Cross, and they beat up Peter and gain control of the situation. Nancy sets herself on fire and the house burns down. Elle and the children get out safely, with Cross and Sampson following on. The police arrive on the scene and arrest Peter Lenox, as Cross embraces his children in relief.
Cross is back at home with his children and Elle, and plays the piano, while Sampson turns up with donuts for everyone. Meanwhile, season 1 villain, Fanboy is in custody and has requested that Cross be the one to interrogate him. Cross enters the interrogation room and immediately uncuffs Fanboy, no longer seeing him as a threat. Fanboy claims he killed 11 people, but Cross reminds him that he’s only being charged for Goodspeed’s murder and Shannon’s kidnapping, which enrages him. He wants fame and notoriety, but Cross is having none of it, and shows him a video of Sampson burning his murder books.
Elsewhere, Cross gets heads up about his hearing in a meeting with Chief Anderson. She tells him he’ll be cleared as the victim took a settlement, while also confirming that she’s running for mayor, which Cross suggests is probably why he’s being cleared, as it looks good for her. She calls him a hero, but tells Cross to decide what that actually means. The season ends with Cross meeting with the innocent man he thought was involved in the death of his wife, (when it was actually Peter) and apologizes to him. In turn, the man drops assault charges against Cross.

Cross Season 1 sees Alex Cross take on the case of a mysterious serial killer who is inspired by famous murderers in popular culture. All of this, while trying to juggle raising his children as a single parent after the murder of his wife Maria (Chaunteé Schuler Irving) one year earlier. He is supported by his grandmother, known as Nana Mama (Juanita Jennings), his new girlfriend, Elle (Samantha Walkes) and his best friend and detective partner, John Sampson (Isaiah Mustafa). Cross and Sampson figure out the identity of the Fanboy killer. It’s a wealthy man called Ed Ramsey, who masks his identity with a creepy mask, while taunting the police in a deadly cat and mouse game.
Cross attends a party hosted by Ed Ramsey, and uses the occasion to confirm his suspicions about him, but unfortunately, his superiors are less than supportive about his extracurricular work, and he is forced to hand his gun and badge in. It’s clear that Ramsey knows all about Cross, and uses this information against him during a big dinner with all his high-up friends. Cross’ girlfriend picks up on this, and questions Cross about what’s going on. Cross gets his own back via Sampson, who has tracked down Ramsey’s terminally ill estranged mother. Cross has to use his skills to rescue Ramsey’s victim, Shannon, who is being held captive, and convince his superiors that Ramsey is the Fanboy.
