Black Ops 6 Seems to Have Problems on PS5 Pro

Key Takeaways

  • Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 players report “shimmering” issues on the PlayStation 5 Pro.
  • Users state that the issue only occurs while in the game’s dedicated 60 FPS mode.
  • Other titles, such as Star Wars Jedi: Survivor and Marvel’s Spider-Man, reportedly have similar graphical issues on the platform.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 appears to have some pretty severe graphical issues on Sony’s new flagship console, the PlayStation 5 Pro, as players report “shimmering” when in 60 FPS mode. Unfortunately, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 reportedly isn’t the only triple-a title experiencing issues on the PlayStation 5’s mid-gen refresh, as users are also revealing issues with games like Silent Hill 2, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, Alan Wake 2, and more.

With numerous titles such as Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, God of War Ragnarok, and many more releasing fresh updates for the launch of the PlayStation 5 Pro, fans around the world have been eager to see how the new console compares to its predecessor. God of War Ragnarok, for example, promised players a new PS5 Pro mode that offered the best visual settings available while still targeting 60 FPS. And for users with VRR-capable displays, a new high frame rate mode allows fans to play at a massive 120 FPS. Unfortunately, since the console’s release, there have been numerous issues, with titles like Star Wars Jedi: Survivor performing worse on the PS5 Pro.

Black Ops 6 Players Experience Shimmering Issue on PS5 Pro

Over on ResetEra, users such as Chaystic are reporting some serious shimmering issues on the PlayStation 5 Pro. While the user says “most games look wonderful” on the console, they note that there appears to be a reoccurring issue with some games, such as Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. “There’s this weird shimmering,” the user said. They went on to explain how the graphical shimmering (which they showcase in a YouTube video) makes it look as if there is glitter on the screen but noted that it only appears to happen while in Black Ops 6‘s 60 FPS mode. “Once you switch to the 120 FPS mode it’s gone”, they said. Another user chimed in to say that the PS5 Pro version of Marvel’s Spider-Man also has similar issues.

Unfortunately, Black Ops 6 appears to be just one of many triple-a titles with issues on the new platform. Shortly after the console’s release, Silent Hill 2 players began calling for a PS5 Pro patch due to similar flickering issues. While neither Konami nor Bloober Team have addressed the issue as of writing, fans have been begging the studios across various social media to release a fix for the graphical issues. The PlayStation 5 version of Silent Hill 2 offers players both a Performance Mode and Quality Mode, allowing users to choose between either 1440p resolution with 30 FPS, or 1080p resolution with 60 FPS. Although a PlayStation Store listing states that the title is PS5 Pro enhanced, players believe the popular horror remake runs substantially worse on the newer console.

Given that there are numerous titles experiencing similar issues on the platform, it’s possible that a fix will need to come directly from PlayStation itself, as opposed to the game’s individual developers. A similar issue occurred earlier this year when Sony pushed a new PS5 update that caused numerous issues in Final Fantasy 16, Star Wars Outlaws, and more. The studio would go on to release a new firmware update to address the issues, which could be what is needed for the PS5 Pro to fix the apparent shimmering issues on titles like Call of Duty: Black Ops 6.
