World of Warcraft is one of the most popular MMMORPGs of all time, running for more than 20 years as of writing this article. With such a long, storied history, players are always coming into the game and trying to learn more. As the game continues to push new boundaries, many players find themselves wondering what the most useful mounts to have are.

World Of Warcraft: Easiest Mounts To Get

Which mounts are the easiest to add to your collection in World Of Warcraft?

World of Warcraft has hundreds of mounts with every expansion adding dozens and dozens more. But most of these are just movement focused, and some don’t even fly! We’re here to break down which mounts are the best for what utility they offer you as a player.

10

Traveler’s Tundra Mammoth

The Traveler’s Tundra Mammoth is the OG of utility mounts. You can buy this from Mei Francis in the Northrend instance of Dalaran. The 20,000g price tag was mammoth when the mount was released, but in modern WoW, that’s a paltry sum.

The Tundra Mammoth comes with two vendors on the sides. One will repair your gear for you, and they’re the one you’ll click more often than not. The other is relatively useless by modern standards, selling reagents and foodstuffs that haven’t been relevant since the Wrath of the Lich King expansion.

The Water Striders are a set of mounts that have the ability to walk on water. If you’re a Death Knight, feel free to hit Path of Frost and move on. But for the rest of us, this mount is great for getting from A to B without having to put on your floaties. You can buy this from the best NPC in the game for fish-friends, Nat Pagle.

Here’s the reading order for all the World of Warcraft books.

Full disclosure, this mount has now been rendered slightly obsolete. Blizzard removed its ability to be used in battlegrounds, where it made short work of some objectives. Nowadays, using the water walking Mount Equipment will give you the same effect.

Vashj’ir Seahorse (or Any Seahorse Mount)

The Subdued Seahorse mount in World of Warcraft underwater.

There are very few mounts in the game that are meant for water usage. If you’re a druid, travel form will make this easy, but what about the rest of us?

This seahorse is easy enough to obtain, snagged through a questline in Cataclysm’s Vashj’ir. New players might struggle to get to this point, but if you already have timewalking unlocked, it’s as quick as can be. This mount is most notable for increasing your swimming speed in the world, while massively increasing it in Vashj’ir.

7

Grand Expedition Yak

The Grand Expedition Yak in World of Warcraft.

For many players, this is the most important utility mount in the game. That’s because this is the only mount obtainable in-game that comes with a Transmogrification service, as well as having the same repair capabilities as the Tundra Mammoth.

You’ll need to pay for that, of course. This mount costs 120,000g from Uncle Bigpocket in Kun-Lai Summit. But despite the cost, never needing to run to repair or transmog again is a great benefit.

Grizzly Hills Packmaster

Not feeling like grinding 120,000g for the Tundra Mammoth? You have another option, but it’s going to require the rarest reagent of all – a credit card. The Grizzly Hills Packmaster is a recent addition to Blizzard’s in-game shop, serving as a microtransaction. It’ll run you $20, but this bear mount has the same services as the Tundra Mammoth.

This is a good way to grab the benefits if you want to get it and be done. But if gold is your only concern, it may be better to spend the same money on a WoW token, buy the Yak, and save more than half of your money. Or, if you’d rather, you can raise enough gold in-game to buy the WoW tokens necessary to purchase the Packmaster.

5

Eve’s Ghastly Rider

Eve's Ghastly Rider on a mountain in World of Warcraft.

This mount is more of an honorable mention. Its main utility comes from being active during the Hallow’s Eve in-game Halloween event. During this period of time, the mount is instant cast, making it great for dungeons or just for getting around.

Once the event ends, it’s castable the same way as any other mount. But there’s still a good use for it. This is one of the smallest mounts in the game, making it so you’ll never get caught on any corners.

4

Sandstone Drake

The Sandstone Drake mount on a mountain in World of Warcraft.

There are a handful of mounts in the game that can fit multiple people. The Packmaster, Tundra Mammoth, and Yak all fit this bill, but none of those fly. The easiest flying two-person mount to obtain is the Sandstone Drake.

This mount is purchasable from Alchemists, and you’ll almost always find some on the in-game Auction house. Because it’s player-driven, the price of this mount will vary, but it’s rarely that high.

3

X-53 Touring Rocket

The X-53 Touring Rocket mount in World of Warcraft.

The X-53 Touring Rocket is a hard-to-obtain mount. This isn’t one that you can always open the game and pick up from a vendor. Originally, it was available as a Recruit-a-Friend award, but it’s long been removed from that acquisition method.

Sometimes, you can find this mount pop up on the Trading Post. Players have even alleged that it appears on the Black Market Auction House, but I can’t personally confirm that, so take that as a rumor. It’s a two-person flying mount just like the Sandstone Drake.

2

Mighty Caravan Brutosaur

A Brutosaur in World of Warcraft.

We can’t talk utility mounts without mentioning the Mighty Caravan Brutosaur. This mount was available for purchase during the Battle for Azeroth expansion, going for a staggering 5,000,000g. Converted to tokens back then, that was several hundreds of dollars, with some variance depending on when you convert.

This mount was in demand for its Auction House NPC, the only mount to have such a thing until very recently. Removed from the vendor after BfA, your only hope of finding it now is on the Black Market Auction House.

1

Trader’s Gilded Brutosaur

The store page shop for the Trader's Gilded Brutosaur in WoW.

One of the most controversial mounts Blizzard has released, this mount is an upgraded version of the Mighty Caravan Brutosaur, decked out in gold and gemstones. Also carrying an auction house NPC, this mount is the only mount in game to come with a mail-checking NPC. In effect, it’s a mobile, instant-delivery auction house.

The trade-off is that it’s also only available from the in-game store as a microtransaction – and not a small one. You’ll need to shell out USD $90 for this guy. But when you convert how much in-game gold you need for the Mighty Caravan Brutosaur, this is comparatively a steal.
