Key Takeaways
- A rare mammoth vs dragon clash is painted from the perspective of a Skyrim player’s memory, with even HUD details included.
- Despite Skyrim’s age, fan art like acrylic paintings continues to thrive, with a recent piece being a standout example.
Drawing from childhood memory, a Skyrim fan shared an acrylic painting they made of a battle between a dragon and a mammoth on the golden plains of Whiterun. The painting was made on a sheet of watercolor paper, and other Skyrim fans complimented the painter for sharing their memory of the battle and incredible artistry.
As two of the most dangerous foes that the Dragonborn can face in Skyrim, both dragons and mammoths are known for more than just their gargantuan sizes. Despite being a landlocked creature, the mammoth bears surprising agility when it charges forward, and a single swipe from its tusks can easily take down most small animals and Nords. As for dragons, the ability to fly and conjure various elemental breath attacks gives them versatility in a fight. However, both mammoths and dragons can be territorial creatures and are known to clash in open areas with unsuspecting players looking on and waiting for an opportunity to take both down at the same time.

A Reddit user named Shone-gg shared an acrylic painting they made of a scuffle between the two beasts and shared it on the r/skyrim subreddit. The painting was taken from the perspective of a Dragonborn, as they channeled both healing magic and destructive lightning in each hand. The battle took place on the golden fields of Whiterun, with a mountain range and tall pine trees in the background. The mammoth was painted on the left side, as it took the brunt of a fire breath attack from the dragon on the left. With white and black scales, the dragon was crouched and pointed its breath attack underneath the mammoth’s neck.

In addition to the fight, elements of Skyrim‘s heads-up display (HUD) were added to the painting, which showed the Dragonborn with low Magicka points, but enough Health and Stamina to keep pace with the dragon and the mammoth. According to Shone-gg, the painting was inspired by childhood summer memories of playing Skyrim on a PS3, and how they used a guide to seek out Daedric Artifacts. The painting was done on 24cm x 18cm watercolor paper, and Shone-gg said that prints are available. Other Skyrim fans praised Shone-gg for their painting and attention to detail.
