The nature of Resident Evil 9 has been a huge subject this year, but the recent influx of massive rumors has sent discussion of the highly-anticipated next chapter into overdrive. From claimed leaks of plot points and main characters to possible announcements, an official reveal of Resident Evil 9 will hopefully soon clear the air. As speculation continues to mount, the next Resident Evil entry has found itself in the same boat with an unexpected companion; the Switch 2.
As two highly-anticipated announcements, both Resident Evil 9 and the Switch 2 have been at the top of the list of eventual launches both gamers and industry insiders have speculated about. With recent rumors claiming Resident Evil 9 could be announced at The Game Awards and predictions regarding the Switch 2’s impending announcement running rampant, both launches are expected to make 2025 an even bigger year than it already is.

Time is Running Out For Resident Evil 9 and Switch 2 Rumors to Be Proven True
Recent Predictions About Impending Announcements
- Resident Evil 9 could be announced at this year’s Game Awards on December 12.
- Nintendo has confirmed the Switch 2 will be revealed before the end of its fiscal year, which runs until March 2025.
When it comes to Resident Evil 9, this particular claim hails from well-known leaker Lunatic Ignus. Their statement regarding the potential announcement is vague and merely marks its unconfirmed presence at The Game Awards as a “huge possibility”, so it should be taken lightly. However, as the year’s closing ceremony to celebrate the industry and its releases, revealing Resident Evil 9 at The Game Awards would make perfect sense. With the event now only a few weeks away, these rumors will be proven true or false quite soon.
Capcom’s next big release is
Monster Hunter Wilds
on February 28, 2025. Although the company could also reveal
Resident Evil 9
at The Game Awards, it seems more likely that it will showcase more of
Monster Hunter Wilds
.
The Switch 2, on the other hand, has a little bit more time to show itself to the world. Instead of rumors about its potential end-of-the-year reveal, Nintendo has confirmed a timeline of when gamers can expect an official reveal of the console. In a recent earnings call, Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa stated that the company still intends to announce its secretive console before the fiscal year is up. Although the fiscal year doesn’t end until March of next year, the clock is still ticking, but not as fast as it is for Capcom’s Resident Evil reveal.
Bringing Even More to Look Forward to in 2025
Neither Resident Evil 9 nor the Switch 2 have announced official release dates yet, but speculation and rumors have suggested that 2025 is the intended target for both. Lunatic Ignus has been at the forefront of Resident Evil 9 discussions. Back in September, they claimed on Discord that Capcom is eyeing the second half of 2025.
Similar to Capcom and Resident Evil 9, Nintendo may not release the Switch 2 until the latter half of 2025. Next year is already shaping up to be a huge time for launches, and adding Resident Evil 9 and the Switch 2 into the mix will only add to the excitement.
Since its 2017 launch, the Nintendo Switch has sold 143.3 million copies worldwide.
It’s important to remember, though, that both Capcom and Nintendo have yet to make anything official. As of now, one of the few confirmed features by Nintendo is the Switch 2’s backward compatibility. Resident Evil 9, on the other hand, is a complete mystery. As the wait continues for these two massive announcements, it will be fascinating to see what is proven true and what was just mere rumors.
