Key Takeaways
- Pokemon has revealed a Shiny Rayquaza Sitting Cuties plush to go with its upcoming Tera raid event.
- This marks the first time a shiny Pokemon has been given its own Sitting Cutie.
- Collectors are torn over whether this is the start of a new era, or just a one-off for Rayquaza.
Pokemon plushes come in a wide range of different varieties and new designs are added seemingly at random. There’s no way of telling which Pokemon will get the plush treatment next with the exception of the Sitting Cuties range. Pokemon has been turning its creations into Sitting Cuties one generation at a time but has thrown collectors a curve ball today by adding a shiny Rayquaza into the mix.
Pokemon kicked off the week by revealing Shiny Rayquaza is coming to Scarlet & Violet and will start appearing in five-star Tera raids from December 19, 2024. The reveal was made via a very cool trailer showing Shiny Rayquaza flying over the Paldea region which you can check out below. However, the reveal that trainers will be able to battle and catch a Shiny Rayquaza of their own in-game was only part of the announcement.

Having the ability to synergize between its various worlds is something Pokemon still manages to handle unlike anything else of its size, and it will continue to demonstrate that by releasing a Shiny Rayquaza Sitting Cutie plush. Serebii’s Joe Merrick has shared an image of the plush, also confirming the toy will be available in Japan from December 14, 2024. That hopefully means it will have found its way to the US version of the online store by the time the in-game event begins five days later.
Shiny Rayquaza Is Getting Its Own Sitting Cutie
I’m In Danger
There’s a reason this particular plush reveal has generated a bigger reaction than most others. Even though Pokemon has been working through the Pokedex for its Sitting Cuties, I believe this is the first time a shiny variant has been added to the collection. Sitting Cutie collectors have been asking whether shiny Pokemon would be added to the range for years, and now that one has, there’s a mix of fear and excitement among those collectors.
Six generations in, there are already hundreds of Sitting Cuties to collect. The range is so all-inclusive that it includes every single version of Vivillon. If shiny Sitting Cuties are about to be incorporated into the equation, then the number of plushes you need to claim you have all of them is about to double. Exciting and terrifying at the same time because that’s a lot more plushes to collect, but a whole lot more money to spend to get them.
The reveal of the Shiny Rayquaza Sitting Cutie bucks the collection’s trend as Pokemon has always revealed additions an entire generation at a time until now. With that in mind, the consensus appears to be that Shiny Rayquaza is a one-off. Not only is it one of the best-looking shiny Pokemon ever created, but it’s clearly a favorite with The Pokemon Company. Don’t go expecting every shiny Pokemon to get its own Sitting Cutie, at least not yet.
