Pokemon Scarlet and Violet has announced a Shiny Rayquaza that will soon be up for grabs in a Tera Raid Battle. Tera Raid battles are a unique feature of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, in which players can capture a powerful terastallized Pokemon in a dungeon-like lair. These battles are similar to the Max Raid battles from Pokemon Sword and Shield, where players would battle Pokemon using the Dynamax feature that was exclusive to those games.
Game Freak has previously released various special Pokemon through a series of unique events. However, most of these have been distributed directly, unlike some event Pokemon that players need to catch themselves. Players recently had the chance to acquire a Shiny Pelipper during the Latin America International Championships in Brazil. This Pokemon is based on the Pelipper Patrick Connors used to win the North American International Championships and came with all the same moves and stats as the one used on the championship team.

This marks the first event including a Shiny Rayquaza since 2016 in Japan and 2015 in America from Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. Trainers will have to catch the Shiny Rayquaza in a Tera Raid after claiming victory. The Pokemon Company released a promotional animation on their YouTube channel to celebrate the occasion.

Several other events leading up to the Shiny Rayquaza include Mass Outbreak events that include Pokemon whose Shiny form features the color black. These include Fraxure, Carbink, and Cetoddle, which will appear in higher numbers with increased odds of being Shiny. Mass Outbreaks are in-game events in which certain Pokemon will appear in large numbers.
A number of other Tera Raids will be available from November 28 to December 19, which will include Pokemon like Corviknight, Annihilape, Kingambit, and more. Bringing the highest-level Pokemon with the right moves is key to defeating Tera Raids. The Shiny Rayquaza encounter will require Pokemon with powerful, super-effective moves to do damage, and some of the Pokemon in the raids leading up to Shiny Rayquaza will be very useful in the fight against the powerful creature.
