Red Dead Redemption features a variety of gambling minigames, from classic card games like Poker and Blackjack to the more risky Liar’s Dice. Liar’s Dice is a game of chance and deception played by two or more players. The thrill lies in reading your opponents’ bluff and your own ability to call a bluff at the right moment. At first, Liar’s Dice can seem pretty confusing, which is why many players avoid it, but it’s one of the easiest ways to make money in Red Dead Redemption.

How To Unlock Liar’s Dice in Red Dead Redemption
You can play Liar’s Dice after completing a main story quest, “Man is Born Unto Trouble,” for an NPC named Irish. Alternatively, you can unlock Liar’s Dice by taking a different mission sequence and progressing through Nigel West Dickens’ mission strand.
Once unlocked, you can start a game of Liar’s Dice in Escalera, Casa Madrugada, and Thieves Landing. The starting bet or ante for each game is always $20 in single-player mode, but varies for online play.
When at Thieve’s Landing, you can meet MacKenna, a stranger, and take on a mission for them called
“Lights, Camera, Action.”
During this side mission, the ante amount is set to $200, instead of $20. This increased ante makes it easier to achieve the $1,000 gambling winnings required for the Savvy Merchant

How To Play Liar’s Dice in Red Dead Redemption
Liar’s Dice minigame in Red Dead Redemption is a game of deception. Each player rolls five dice and keeps their results hidden inside a cup. Players then take turns making bids about the number of dice showing a specific face.
The other players can either raise the bid, call the bluff, or declare a bid spot-on. Liar’s Dice continues until only one player is left with at least one die. You can either increase the quantity of the same number (e.g., from “three fours” to “four fours”) or change the number itself (e.g., to “three fives”) in the next bid.
Once a bluff is called or a correct bid is made, all players reveal their dice. The total number of dice showing the bid number is counted. If you falsely accuse another of bluffing, you’ll lose a die as a penalty. But, if you correctly identify a bluff, the bluffer loses a die.
If a player believes the previous bid is accurate, they can call it “spot-on.” This means they’re confirming the exact number of dice matching the bid. If the actual number of matching dice is different from the bid, the player who called spot-on loses a die. If the actual number matches the bid, the player who declared spot-on is safe, and all other players lose a die.
How To Win Liar’s Dice in Red Dead Redemption
The ultimate goal in Liar’s Dice is to be the last player with dice remaining. To increase your chances of winning Liar’s Dice, it’s recommended to play with fewer opponents. A game with many players can take longer to finish. Plus, more players increase the chances of you making a mistake and losing a die. On the other hand, a one-on-one game is faster-paced and gives you a higher chance of winning in Red Dead Redemption.
When making a bid, look for multiple dice showing the same number. For example, if you have three fours, you can bid “three fours.” If you don’t have multiple dice, bid on a single die, preferably a lower number. Doing so will give more room for raising subsequent bids at higher numbers if necessary.
The best way to play Liar’s Dice is to be honest. Bid what you have, or maybe one less than what you have, and avoid bluffing. Don’t guess what your opponent might have, but remember, NPCs in Red Dead Redemption can sometimes make unexpected moves.
