Chapters

98 – 111

When first introduced to Mitaka Asa, she displays a standoffish personality and lacks self-esteem. In Chapter 98, she sees herself as the outcast of her class. Asa likely believed everyone around her lacked a moral compass, as she continued to state several illegal or immoral situations around her.

In the world of Chainsaw Man, Devils have run rampant and become a daily fact of life. As a result, many individuals live their normal daily lives because they are unlikely to escape from devil activity. While many Devils are vicious and voracious, others, such as the Chicken Devil Bucky, can be harmless.

However, after becoming a social outcast for accidentally killing Bucky, she quickly met her end after the Class President made a contract with the Justice Devil. It was after Asa lay dying that the War Devil possessed her body, turning Asa into a Fiend while leaving half her brain intact. Previously in Hell, Yoru and the other Four Horsemen fought the Chainsaw Man, which led him to eat many of the Nuclear Weapons, escape to Earth, and live as Pochita.

However, Yoru also hopes to prove that she is stronger than Chainsaw Man, and as Asa and Yoru become closer to Denji, they begin to make the distinction between the two.

I’ll make you vomit nuclear weapons back up!

At first, Yoru hated Denji and the Chainsaw Man, seeking to kill and get close to him every chance she got. However, Asa always got in her way due to her moral compass. Throughout the series, Yoru has always made logical and unhinged suggestions to solve problems that have come their way. However, Asa always fought back, believing there to be a better solution to Yoru’s suggestions.

Yoru had consistently been committed to her role in defeating and finding the Chainsaw Man while using Asa to handle the human aspect of living on Earth. However, the more Yoru interacted with Asa and felt her emotions, the more Yoru’s perception of Denji began to change.

When Asa first met Denji, she had no feelings for him but felt disgusted by him and his actions. In Chapter 104, Asa lists several reasons why she used to hate Chainsaw Man and thus engages in an argument with Denji about all the rumors she had heard about the Chainsaw Man.

Honestly, I used to hate him… But these days I’m neutral.

Asa reencounters Denji after the Justice Devil arc and witnesses him somewhat committing good deeds by picking up used cigarette butts. However, she soon learns that Denji was doing it to rip off homeless people. As mentioned above, Asa has a moral compass which she uses to perform acts of righteousness or kindness.

Chainsaw Man: The Difference Between Denji and Pochita’s Chainsaw Man

The power to erase Devil names is not easily accessible. So, how different are Denji and Pochita?

At this point, Asa still does not believe Denji is the Chainsaw Man and has been looking for someone between a “cat and criminal” to whom she can make weapons. From this point forward, Asa develops feelings for Denji during the Dating Denji arc. While held hostage by the Eternity Devil, Asa genuinely grew to like Denji, and Yoru confirms this by stating, “This feeling must be love.”

Throughout the series, Asa spends more time with Denji, learning about his ambitions and goals. While there are instances in which Asa is disgusted by Denji because of his thoughts and pervertedness, her feelings for Denji don’t fade, and she even goes out of her way to save him.

How does Yoru express her feelings for Denji?

Initially seeking to pursue her goal, Yoru’s feelings for Denji begin to change

As mentioned above, Yoru initially did not express any feelings for Denji. In Chapter 102, when Asa, Yoru, and Yuko are saved from the reincarnated Bat Devil by Denji, in Chapter 104, Yoru expresses great disdain and annoyance for being saved by him. The difference between Asa and Yoru is indicated by the scars that appear on the body due to the Justice Devil’s attack. It has already been confirmed that Asa has feelings for Denji, as Yoru often comments on it several times throughout the manga.

Chainsaw Man: Are Devils Capable of Caring For Others?

Devils are always killing humans and drinking their blood, but are they capable of caring for others?

Yoru previously mentioned in Chapter 117 that the two share feelings and emotions. In Chapter 168, Yoru becomes embarrassed after committing an intimate deed with Denji and quickly deflects by stating it was due to Asa’s feelings that flowed into her. However, although Yoru did this to snap Denji back into reality, she has since continued kissing Denji while blushing.

The difference between Asa and Yoru is that Asa chooses not to act on her feelings. Yoru, although she states that Asa’s feelings have flowed into her, acts on these feelings while diverting her own. Yoru can act on her own feelings, as she demonstrates wanting to kill Denji and the Chainsaw Man several times after the incident.

However, in Chapter 182, Yoru finally confesses her feelings, stating that Denji is cute when he cries and continues to make out with him. At first, Asa’s feelings may have motivated her to act this way. However, in comforting Denji and continuing to be intimate with him, it’s clear that Asa’s feelings no longer influence Yoru.
