How A Sequel Can Save Yuji, Megumi And Nobara

This article contains spoilers from Jujutsu Kaisen’s Shinjuku Showdown Arc.

Key Takeaways

  • Yuji, Megumi, and Nobara need more character development.
  • A sequel can explore the trio’s true potential.
  • Without Gojo, the main trio can shine and lead the series further.

Jujutsu Kaisen wrapped up quite some time ago, and while the ending was certainly satisfying for some fans, others knew that this story could have offered much more, had the author’s health not deteriorated as much as it did. Jujutsu Kaisen has a lot of potential even now, and if there was ever to be a sequel series, fans would absolutely rejoice.

Gojo’s death at the hands of Sukuna means a new Six Eyes user should be born.

Of course, readers know that the decision of continuing JJK rests entirely with the author, and even though it is essentially confirmed that at some point later down the line, Gege will return, what fans do not know at this point is whether that return will be with a new series or Jujutsu Kaisen. Of course, chances are that Gege will write a new story, because if he truly wanted to continue Jujutsu Kaisen, fans would have known by now. Still, if a sequel were to ever happen, it would certainly delight the fans and, at the same time, fix many issues with the ending of the series, specifically concerning the three main characters, Yuji, Megumi, and Nobara.

The Potential Of The Three Main Characters In Jujutsu Kaisen

  • Yuji Itadori Has Hardly Controlled His Powers
  • Megumi and Nobara Have A Lot Of Catching Up To Do

It is safe to say that Gege created very interesting characters in Yuji, Megumi, and Nobara. All three of them were interesting in their own ways right from the get-go. Yuji, being the main character, wanted to save many people and be surrounded by those that he loves. It is safe to say that Yuji accomplished this dream of his, but fans know that he had much more to offer. Megumi, on the other hand, was known to have the potential to become one of the strongest, if not the strongest, characters in the series, and this target of his remained unfulfilled as well. Nobara, despite being one of the three main characters, was cut out of the entirety of the story, only to return at the very end for one last blow and a few more chapters following that. Clearly, the three main characters of JJK needed much more attention, and fans know that a sequel can fix that right away.

The next generation won’t stop at Special Grade! – Gojo

For Yuji, fans know that a Jujutsu Kaisen sequel would mean great things. As things stand, Yuji is still an unfinished product in the series, and despite having defeated Sukuna, he’s far from his actual peak. Yuji is still a student in Jujutsu High and has to learn many elements of cursed energy in order to get stronger. This is something that fans don’t like about the ending of the series, and they expected Yuji to hit a higher level and finally bring out his true potential close to the end. Unfortunately, that can only happen with the sequel, and that is one reason why this absolutely needs to happen.

Something similar can be said for Megumi as well. In the case of Megumi, however, the need for a sequel is much more. Megumi only returned at that the very end of the battle, where he contributed slightly to Sukuna’s defeat, and eventually, rejoined his friends in carrying out his daily activities. But, Megumi’s true potential, which was said to be equal to that of Gojo if he truly managed to tap into it, was never focused on again.

Megumi did not even manage to complete his domain expansion, let alone master his own cursed technique. There are many things absolutely flawed with Megumi’s character, and his growth is certainly one of the biggest wasted aspects of the JJK manga. A sequel is certainly going to fix that properly, and give fans what they want from this beloved character.

Nobara’s Sad Reality In JJK

Nobara in the Shibuya arc in Jujutsu Kaisen

Nobara likely treated the worst out of all three, given that she was cut out of the story in Shibuya and returned at the very end to deliver one blow to the King of Curses and call it a day. Nobara’s has character arc was essentially destroyed around Shibuya, and she just existed in the end for the sake of it.

Naturally, Nobara’s return did make sense, given that it was never truly confirmed that she actually had died. But, what fans did not like is the way she came back, and her involvement in JJK, in the grand scheme of things. A sequel would do wonders to fix Nobara’s character, if the author has what it takes to write her properly.

How Jujutsu Kaisen Sequel Will Flesh Out These Characters

Jujutsu Kaisen Can Take A Deep Dive Into Its Main Cast’s Life

Jujutsu Kaisen’s sequel will be absolutely wonderful for these three characters, and this is mainly because there is no more Gojo to take the spotlight in the series. Gojo is dead, as has been confirmed in the story repeatedly. Sad as that may be, it is a blessing and disguise for these characters, when one looks at it from viewers point of view. Gojo almost always takes the spotlight in every arc, and even in the Shinjuku showdown arc, which was the last arc of JJK, he was the one who stole the show when he fought against Sukuna.

Yuji had a lot of potential in JJK. He could have even mastered his shrine.

The heights the series managed to reach in this segment of the story were unmatched, even after Yuji unleashed one incredible power after another moving forward in the battle. But, any sequel of JJK will most likely not have Gojo around, which means that these characters will probably be fleshed out. This is even more exciting to the fans especially because these three characters are most certainly going to be leaders of the upcoming generation and trying to establish themselves among the strongest sorcerers, which means that they will be at the forefront of things and not being watched over or guided by someone else, like before. This also means that the author will be compelled to utilize them and flesh out their character arcs properly, which will result in great things for their progression.

The Main Characters Of JJK Living Up To Their Reputation

Jujutsu Kaisen’s Trio Can Still Shine

If JJK gets a sequel, the main three characters of the series will then get an opportunity to live up to their reputation. Fans know that these characters have what it takes to reach the same levels of popularity as Gojo. In fact, Megumi has already proven himself to be one of the most popular characters across the world, and if the author continues the way he did with him up until the midpoint of Culling Game, then, this character will certainly be wonderful to witness.

Similarly, Yuji will continue to grow and fulfill his potential as well and establish himself as the strongest, while Nobara will get the much-desired character arc, which will see her reaching new levels as well and, at the same time, figure out more about herself and the world around her. Any sequel of JJK will do justice to all three characters and that is why the series should continue. Of course, at the end of the day, it all depends on what the author wants. As far as the fans go, a sequel would be absolutely perfect.

Jujutsu Kaisen’s last chapter, JJK 271, was finally released on September 29, 2024. Fans can read the series on the Manga Plus and the Shonen Jump apps.
