Alan Wake 2 Releases New Update for November 2024

Alan Wake 2 Releases New Update for November 2024

Key Takeaways

  • An update for Alan Wake 2 addresses DLC and base game issues, adds quality of life improvements.
  • Fixes include more resource boxes, cinematic issues, and flashlight boosting while reloading.
  • This update follows on the heels of the massive Anniversary Update from October.

Remedy Entertainment releases a new update for Alan Wake 2, addressing numerous issues within the Lake House DLC as well as fixing other remaining issues in the base game. It’s been a busy couple of weeks for Remedy as not only has Alan Wake 2 celebrated its one-year anniversary on October 27, but the game also received its final paid DLC expansion, known as The Lake House.

Releasing alongside The Lake House, Alan Wake 2‘s anniversary update was a massive one for players for not only adding more fixes and tweaks to the base game, but adding in a bunch of quality of life improvements as well. Specifically, new accessibility options were made available and, as some would say, cheat codes from the menu, allowing players to better tailor the experience like infinite ammo, one shot kills, immortality and more. The latest Alan Wake 2 update isn’t quite as ambitious as the anniversary one, but still offers a new gameplay improvement as well.

Alan Wake 2: Biggest Ways It Has Changed Since Launch

Alan Wake 2 has seen some pretty significant additions since its release back in 2023. Here are some of the most notable changes fans can enjoy.

As expected, the latest update for Alan Wake 2 focuses on The Lake House DLC and shoring up a number of issues players have been experiencing since its launch. Specifically, Remedy has added more resource boxes for players to find before the final boss battle, allowing them to better prepare. In addition, the update fixed a variety of issues with the cinematics that play, missing paint on Sublevel 4 for the Painted enemies, as well as a rare issue that causes the player to get stuck inside the elevator when attempting to return to Sublevel 1.

Outside of The Lake House DLC, the November 18 patch fixes a couple of bugs including players not being able to fire a weapon after partially reloading it, as well as another frustrating issue where the PlayStation 5’s DualSense controller adaptive triggers continued to rumble in general. However, this update also added a neat little feature for players in that the flashlight can now boost the flashlight while reloading, effectively adding a way to quickly cancel the reload.

While Alan Wake 2 has seen plenty of positivity and strong critical acclaim since it launched in 2023, it hasn’t been all good news for Remedy’s horror title. During a recent financial earnings report on November 1, 2024, the studio’s CEO Tero Virtala admitted that Alan Wake 2 hasn’t yet turned a profit for the company. However, that may soon change as the financial report addressed the financials up until September 2024, which doesn’t include the anniversary updates, PS5 Pro launch, as well as The Lake House DLC.

Alan Wake 2 November 18, 2024 Patch Notes

General

  • The Player can now boost the flashlight while reloading the weapon (canceling the reload in the process). YES!

Fixes

  • Fixed an issue where the player was not able to shoot after a partial weapon reload
  • Fixed an issue where the DualSense adaptive triggers kept on rumbling and doing the wrong thing at the wrong time

The Lake House Fixes and Improvements

  • Sent in some additional resource boxes that appear right before the final boss fight, as they should in video games. Stock up!
  • Fixed an issue where the opening cinematic of The Lake House was playing at the wrong time
  • Fixed some shadow banding on the final The Lake House cinematic
  • Fixed a rare case where the player would get stuck in the elevator when returning to Sublevel 1. While this is a realistic issue even for the FBC, this has now been deemed not a great idea for the game experience
  • Added some “missing” paint onto the walls of Sublevel 4, so it no longer seems the Painted attack out of a regular grey wall. (also known as the “good thinking” fix)
  • Fixed the Portuguese translation for the hint for the second computer puzzle, which gave the player the wrong information.
  • Various localization fixes
  • Minor fixes and stability improvements
