Where to Find the King of Romaria in Dragon Quest 3 Remake

Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake is filled with a wide variety of interesting situations that the protagonist has to figure out. One of the game’s earliest examples of this features the Hero becoming the unwitting King or Queen of Romaria. At first, the player likely figures that there is something important they must do as the new regent of an entire kingdom. Surely, the King wouldn’t foist the crown on someone just to get away with what is the equivalent of ditching class? Unfortunately, this seems to be the case. With this in mind, we will explain how players can stop being King or Queen of Romaria in Dragon Quest 3 Remake.

How to Become King or Queen of Romaria:

Fairly early in Dragon Quest 3 Remake, players will be tasked with rescuing the King of Romaria’s crown from Robbin ‘Ood, a notorious bandit. After making your way through Skyfell Tower and collecting the King’s Crown, you’ll have to return to Romaria and deliver it to the King.

Once you have returned the crown, the King will reward you with something slightly unorthodox: he will make you the new regent of Romaria. Suddenly, you are thrust into a position of power, and you can no longer leave the city. You can explore Romaria, but your party is nowhere to be found. Essentially, there is nothing you can do. Beyond that, the game does not tell you how to reverse the situation.

Where to Find the King of Romaria:

If you speak to the NPCs around the castle, you’ll figure out that the king has likely made his way to the Monster Arena. To find the arena, look for the Slime icon on the map. It can be found just south of the building that hosts the Item and Weapon shops. Inside the building, you’ll find the stairs to the Monster Arena along the southern edge.

At the bottom of the stairs, you’ll see the main Monster Arena lobby. If you head past the Bank and the information desk, you’ll find another stairway that heads up to the arena sitting area. At the top of the stairs, head left along the wall, and you’ll encounter an old man standing at the ledge overlooking the arena. This is the King.

How to Stop Being King or Queen of Romaria:

When you approach the King, he will ask you two questions:

  • Question 1: Is the throne to your liking? Answer: No
  • Question 2: You no longer wish to be King/Queen of this fair land? Answer: Yes

Once you have answered the King’s questions, you will automatically be sent back to the castle, and you’ll no longer be King or Queen.

For the remainder of
Dragon Quest 3 Remake,
you can return to the King of Romaria any time you wish and become King or Queen again. The process of returning the crown will be exactly the same. Currently, there is no known use for becoming the regent of Romaria. It is simply an interesting situation.
