The Biggest Pro Tips For Dragon Age: The Veilguard

Dragon Age: The Veilguard has a lot for players to discover, from a whole new combat system, to new companions and their abilities, to puzzles scattered across every map for you to explore and uncover. However, there are some things the game either doesn’t explain clearly or even doesn’t explain at all.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard – 9 Things To Do After You Beat The Game

If you finished Dragon Age: The Veilguard, but aren’t quite ready to move on, here’s what you can do after beating it.

From combat tricks to exploration secrets and information on the faction system that the game doesn’t tell you, there are quite a few things in the Veilguard that only pro players know to do.

Sell Specific Items To Specific Factions

There are various factions in the game, and they will sell you different weapons, armor, appearance modifications, and more. But in order to access their full selection, you will need to progressively level them up with gold, materials, and faction reputation.

The way to get faction rep is by completing side quests in the area or by selling valuables to the vendors. Something that was originally hidden from the UI, however, is that some valuables you find in the world give a lot more reputation based on which faction is buying them. With the first major patch of the game, the valuable will now tell you how much reputation you get, but this is still easily missable if you just use the “sell all” option at the vendor. Make sure you sell specific items to their appropriate vendors to get the most reputation out of your transaction!

Breaking pots for resources in Dragon Age: The Veilguard.

In the open world of the game, you will see plenty of resources scattered around the maps, such as ores, heartwood, and other materials. These are needed for upgrading gear and, more importantly, upgrading faction vendors to sell better gear.

However, what most players probably haven’t noticed is that it is not the only way to find resources in the world. The maps are dotted with various barrels and crates, and almost all can be broken by running or rolling into them or attacking them, and they will always drop resources like wood, ore, and even small amounts of gold. So channel your inner Link and get to smashing those pots.

Button Shortcuts For Companion Abilities

Dragon Age: The Veilguard Companion Ability Shortcuts.

It is made clear during the tutorial sections that you don’t have to open the full ability wheel to use your abilities and cast spells; there is a shortcut button, the left trigger on a controller, that allows you to press one of the face buttons on the controller to use them. This makes it much easier to use your abilities on the fly in combat without disrupting the flow of battle.

What you may not have noticed is that your companion’s abilities are in this shortcut, too! The tutorial does not mention this, and they may be hard to notice as they are smaller and off to the side of your character’s abilities, but they are there.

Wisp Vendor From The Destroyed City

The Destroyed City Mist Merchant in the Crossroads in Dragon Age: The Veilguard.

Early on in the game, after you recruit Davrin into your party, Dock Town and Treviso will be attacked by dragons sent by the Elven gods. You will be forced to choose which city to help first, and as a result, the other city will be heavily damaged in the attack, as well as losing the faction vendor for that area.

However, the developers gave a backup that may be easy to miss. In the Crossroads, after a certain point, you will have saved some of the wisps there being attacked by enemies, and the central area will be full of friendly shades and spirits. There will be various vendors in which you can use spirit essence to buy items, but in the south side of the market, there is a shade representing the faction of the city you didn’t save. Here, you will be able to buy items you missed from them or sell items to the wisp to increase your reputation with that faction, which is important to still be able to do for the late game.

Lighthouse Hidden Exploration

The Lighthouse is the hub for your party throughout your time in the Veilguard. It is a safe space in The Fade, and each party member will have their own little section, including you with your room. The Lighthouse is hiding more secrets than that, though.

8 Hidden Areas Everyone Completely Missed In Dragon Age: The Veilguard

If you’re looking for spots with unique rewards or just a beautiful view, these are the hidden areas that you can’t miss in Dragon Age: The Veilguard.

We won’t spoil the whole puzzle here, as it is both fun to figure out and not too difficult, but it begins with exploring the plaza of the Lighthouse and finding these statues that you can rotate. Once you rotate them correctly, you will unlock a secret room in the main hall of the Lighthouse, and the puzzle continues from there. This will unlock new areas of the Lighthouse, pieces of gear, resources, and codex entries, so have fun exploring your home base.

Talk To Party Members After Each Adventure

Dragon Age: The Veilguard Emmrich Quest Available.

The game does not make this clear to you, as there is no notification or anything to inform you after going on quests. Not that it has to, of course. But since it is not clear, many players may not realize that you can talk to your companions at the Lighthouse after almost every outing you have on the various maps.

It is important to check in with all your companions after each outing, as this will advance their bonds, give you new scenes and side quests for them, and more opportunities to romance them, should you wish. There will be plenty of time to do these throughout the game, but if you are not checking in with them often, you may not be able to complete their questlines and get their ultimate gear.

3

Buy Items To Permanently Increase Stats

There are a surprising number of vendors around the different maps and locations you’ll explore in the game. These vendors will sell a variety of items, from new armor, weapons, materials, gifts to give companions, and more. But ones that players might not have noticed are the permanent stat increase items.

You will have to check every vendor you come across, but some will sell items that give you a permanent one percent health increase or a defense increase. These might seem like small increases, and they are, but building them up over time will lead to a significant amount of bonus attributes for a relatively cheap price.

Combat Is More Open Than You Think

Dragon Age: The Veilguard Jump Attack of a mage Rook.

Combat in the Veilguard is the most impressive it’s ever been in the Dragon Age series. You have full freedom of movement, different ability combinations that lead to destroying armor or barriers, and the ability to parry and do melee combos. Some players may still not be reaching their full potential, though.

Don’t forget that you have full freedom to jump and sprint, even in combat. By using these options, you’ll be able to do sprinting attacks, jumping attacks, and have new ways to make use of your Triangle/Y button abilities. For example, as a Mage, you are able to build up charges in your staff and release it by pressing Triangle/Y and doing a frontal cone elemental attack. But that is not all; you can sprint into this ability to make it more effective and even jump to do a big ground-pound attack that sends the attack on all sides instead of just in front. Make sure to experiment with your full toolkit in combat, not just the traditional abilities!

1

Upgrade The Caretaker

The main store page for the Caretaker's shop in Dragon Age: The Veilguard.

Most players will have noticed the Caretaker vendor in the Lighthouse, which allows you to upgrade your gear and eventually enchant it to add bonus effects. This is useful, of course, but there is another reason you should be making sure to upgrade the Caretaker whenever you can.

Not only does upgrading the Caretaker allow you to upgrade your gear to higher levels, but it also increases the levels at which you will find loot in the open world. This means that, even if you don’t care for upgrading through the Caretaker and prefer to find new gear through exploring, it is still important to upgrade the Caretaker, as this means anything you find out in the wild will be a higher level, and thus, higher stats.
