The Razer USB 4 Dock will immediately draw comparisons to the Thunderbolt 4 Dock released in 2021. When comparing the two docks, the most obvious difference is the price, with the USB 4 version costing $100 less. Razer dropped Chroma RGB lighting from the latest accessory, but the USB 4 standard is cheaper than Thunderbolt 4. Razer invested some of the savings in licensing fees when adding four ports to the ten-port Thunderbolt 4 dock.
Along with the total number of ports, a critical consideration is what video signals a USB dock supports. Like Thunderbolt 4, USB 4 allows transfer speeds of up to 40 Gb/s, though the USB standard permits a lower 20 Gb/s throughput. On Razer’s dock, that higher bandwidth is sufficient for a single monitor at 4K 120 Hz, complemented by a secondary 4K 60 Hz display. Connectivity to monitors is established through HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort 1.4 ports on one side of the dock. Buyers will still need clever cable management, but laptops with USB 4 Type C ports are definitely at an advantage.

The Razer USB 4 Dock’s list of remaining ports is extensive. Notable mentions include multiple USB 3.2 Type C Gen 2 connections, Gigabit Ethernet, a headphone jack, and Micro SD/SD card slots. The USB-C upstream port can deliver a maximum 100-watt power delivery to laptops without additional cabling. Gamers who struggle with interference while using wireless mice will appreciate a port dedicated to USB dongles on the dock’s left side.
Even though Razer’s new dock doesn’t emit RGB lighting, its aesthetics aren’t lackluster. The dock is available in Black or a shiny Mercury color, and the thick aluminum casing gives the gear a premium look. Also, for a limited time, Razer is bundling a Joyplot Chroma Skin with purchases that wrap around its exterior. Buyers will find some minimal green lighting on the dock’s right side, courtesy of a power button. With a beefy external 180-watt power supply, the component charges many devices without connecting to PCs.
