  • Arcane has recast most of its champions with new voice actors, but there are occasionally crossovers.

Arcane is in the middle of its second and final season and has wasted no time in introducing new characters and resurrecting old ones. One of the new faces in Arcane Season 2 shares an unexpected connection to a League of Legends character.

Arcane is an animated adaptation of Riot Games’ popular online multiplayer game League of Legends, and it brings many of the title’s popular champions to life in its story. Characters like Jayce, Viktor, Jinx, and Vi, have been given added depth and backstory throughout Arcane, introducing elements of the characters’ lives that were never afforded space in the video game. One of these elements came to the forefront in Episode 5 of Season 2 of Arcane. In a flashback sequence, fans get the opportunity to meet Felicia, who is revealed to be Vi and Jinx’s mother. Felicia is shown in conversation with a young Vander and Silco, who at the time were still friends as close as brothers, with a dream of turning the undercity into the nation of Zaun. Felicia reveals in the scene that she is pregnant and terrified of being a mother, and enlists Vander and Silco to look after her offspring, a vow they both end up fulfilling in different ways over the subsequent years.

Felicia’s Voice Actor Has a History With League of Legends

An interesting tidbit of information for fans is that the voice actor behind Felicia shares a connection to League of Legends. The credits for Episode 5 confirm that Jeannie Tirado provides the voice for Felicia. Tirado has had many voice roles over the years in projects like Soul, Fire Emblem: Three Houses, Octopath Traveler II, and Resident Evil Village. Among her many video game voice roles, Tirado has also worked on League of Legends, voicing the champion, Vex.

In League of Legends, Tirado’s character, Vex, is a moody Yordle with an endless supply of teen angst. Riot Games describes the character as someone who lives “in her own self-made slice of gloom,” and some of Vex’s abilities include a Doom ‘N Gloom blast, shadow surge, and a shield called “Personal Space” all of which play into the character’s angsty personality. While some Yordles have been introduced in Arcane, namely Heimerdinger and Smeech, Vex is yet to make a debut.

Felicia on the other hand, isn’t all that similar to Tirado’s League of Legends character. As Jinx and Vi’s mother, Felicia is introduced in the series as a perfect balance between both her daughters, both in her character design and her dialogue. Admirably, Tirado manages to nail a blend of both characters’ voices through her performance, making quite an impact during Felicia’s short time on screen.

Seeing as Arcane is based on League of Legends, it makes sense that voice actors would crossover between the projects now and then. However, Riot decided to recast the roles of most of its champions with new actors, with cast members like Ella Purnell, Hailee Steinfeld, Kevin Alejandro, and Reed Shannon, boarding the series to bring their versions of the League of Legends characters to life. So, while Tirado is not voicing her same character in Arcane, her involvement is a nice Easter egg for fans of both worlds.
