Great news for horror fans: the movie Your Monster, which stars Melissa Barrera, is now on PVOD (Premium Video On Demand). According to Bloody Disgusting, the film became available on PVOD platforms on November 12th, 2024.
Your Monster stars Barrera as Laura Franco, an actress who has had a terrible time lately. She’s not only dealing with a bad breakup, but she also has cancer. Her life is changed when she opens her closet only to discover a monster (simply called Monster), played by Tommy Dewey. While there are many Universal movies about monsters, Dewey’s character stands out and has a compelling look.

Horror Movies Have Found A New Favorite Trope In The 21st Century
While horror cinema twisting reality is nothing new, recent releases have leaned hard into the surreal and left everything ambiguous.
Your Monster was released in theaters on October 25th, 2024. But horror fans might not have gotten the chance to see it or perhaps it wasn’t playing near them, so seeing movie through PVOD is a great option.
Caroline Lindy wrote and directed Your Monster, which is adapted from her short film released in 2019. It’s always interesting to see a short film become a feature-length movie, and that also happened with Parker Finn’s smart 2022 movie Smile, which is adapted from his short Laura Hasn’t Slept. Meghann Fahy, whose resume includes The White Lotus season 2 and the TV drama The Bold Type, also stars in the movie. Barrera’s character, Laura, is engaging to watch since she’s kind of a horror movie final girl since audiences aren’t sure if she’s in danger from the monster. But, since she falls in love with him, Your Monster is part scary story, part romantic drama with some comedic moments thrown in there as well. It’s an intriguing plot that will make any horror fan excited to check it out, especially if they enjoyed watching Barrera in her previous projects.
In an interview with Deadline, Barrera shared that she enjoys the message of Your Monster. This definitely makes it feel more unique than a typical slasher tale or monster flick. The movie is about people embracing who they are and not worrying about flaws or imperfections. Besides playing Sam Carpenter in Scream (2022) and Scream 6, which has a final scene that stands out, the actress starred in the 2022 supernatural film Bed Rest. She also played a major role in the action heist/horror mash-up Abigail, which fans can find currently streaming.
Barrera also spoke to Deadline about being considered a “scream queen” because of her horror movie resume.
“I’m just getting started. I’m just little old me, but I do love the genre and I have so much fun being a final girl and giving people bloody fun movies that they can escape into. And I think the horror fandom is one of the most generous fandoms and they’re so supportive and so loyal.”
