Genshin Impact’s Genius Invokation TCG Plans Could Just Be the Beginning

Genshin Impact's Genius Invokation TCG Plans Could Just Be the Beginning

Genshin Impact delivers various experiences within its open-world universe, and one popular activity is the Genius Invokation TCG. The game mode allows players to build decks made up of Genshin Impact character cards to deplete their opponents’ HP. It also has an Elemental Dice to obtain the energy they need during Action Phases.

The popularity of Genshin Impact‘s card game is undeniable as HoYoverse continues to update it with new cards. Recently, the company also released a physical version of the Genius Invokation TCG in China, opening up opportunities for in-person tournaments that Genshin Impact fans and general TCG fans could participate in. This could also be a good window for HoYoverse to capitalize on Genius Invokation’s momentum, and possibly come up with TCGs for other titles.

HoYoverse Making More TCGs Could Be the Next Big Thing

Many TCGs continue to be a force in the tabletop scene because of their compelling and skillful gameplay, which contributes to the ever-growing demand for them. Likewise, several franchises have also made TCGs more accessible through digital and mobile platforms, such as Pokemon TCG Pocket. However, in the case of Genius Invokation, it needed a physical release to lessen the obstacle of having to grind to Adventure Rank 32 in Genshin Impact in order to access the TCG. Again, this just shows that HoYoverse sees the potential of Genius Invokation to thrive in the TCG space.

  • Where to access Genius Invokation: Once players reach Adventure Rank 32, they can access the TCG at The Cat’s Tail bar in Monstadt.

In the same vein, there’s an opportunity to also introduce a TCG mini-game in HoYoverse titles like Honkai: Star Rail and Zenless Zone Zero, with cards featuring their respective characters. It could have different mechanics based on the games‘ themes, or adopt the same rules as Genius Invokation. The latter could also allow for special collaborations with either Honkai: Star Rail or Zenless Zone Zero to create special cards, which is apt considering HoYoverse’s penchant for multiversal crossovers.

The potential Honkai: Star Rail and Zenless Zone Zero TCGs could start as permanent game modes to gauge their popularity and to give HoYoverse time to refine the gameplay down the line. If the demand calls for it, the developer could launch physical versions as well to further grow its presence in the competitive TCG space. However, the next hurdle that it needs to overcome is distributing physical cards to other regions outside China to truly expand its reach and open up more tournament opportunities in various countries. This could also be healthy for the competitive scene, as players from various regions could come up with their own meta decks.

The Possible End of Genshin Impact’s Main Story Could Be a Deciding Factor For HoYoverse’s TCG

There have been hints that Genshin Impact‘s main story could be nearing its end, which could explain why HoYoverse is slowly building up Genius Invokation with its physical release. This could eventually give the company more reason to come out with more game-specific TCGs or further expand Genius Invokation to be more HoYoverse-centric, featuring characters across different games. It could even capitalize on collaborations, like the Fate/Stay Night crossover, to create limited-edition cards that TCG players and collectors will love.

No one knows yet when the open-world game will make its curtain call, but HoYoverse still has a couple of successful ongoing titles and an alleged Animal Crossing-like game called Starry Sky Valley to keep the community engaged. There’s also a Genshin Impact anime in the works, so fans could relive the adventure on their TV screens.
