What is the Sacred Kingdom?

Also known as the Holy Kingdom, the Sacred Kingdom is a country defended by a Great Wall which has been in peace for a long time until an army of demi-humans attack the country, commanded by Demon Emperor Jaldabaoth. The Liberation Army then requests aid from Aizen’s Sorcerer Kingdom in a desperate attempt to save the country, considering the Sorcerer Kingdom and the Sacred Kingdom do not hold good relations.

The Sacred Kingdom was founded 200 years prior to the story, after defeating the Evil Deities, whose national hero is a Valkyrie Knight. It is divided into the Northern Sacred Kingdom and the Southern Holy Kingdom.

What is Overlord’s story about?

Overlord takes place in a fictitious “DMMORPG” (highly immersive games in which players can “fully dive”, like a more sophisticated VR technology) titled Yggdrasil, whose servers would soon shut down. A player, known in-game as Momonga (later knowns as Ainz Ooal Gown), wants to enjoy the game as long as he can. However, once the time comes, he is still inside the game, and all the other characters seem to have now gained their own personalities. Then Momonga, who is a powerful magician, decides to keep living there.

The story was originally a self-published novel by Kugane Maruyama from 2010 to 2012, later acquired and compiled by Enterbrain in Japan, with 16 volumes released so far. Yen Press publishes the novel and a manga adaptation in the US.

In 2015, the first season aired in Japan. Both the second and the third seasons debuted in 2018. Then, in 2022, the fourth season was finally released. With 52 episodes, all the seasons kept most of the main staff. The movie was announced in 2021, alongside the fourth season.

All Overlord seasons can be watched on Crunchyroll, both subbed and dubbed.
