In Dragon Age: The Veilguard, solving puzzles and finding new gear from chests to upgrade Rook and your companions is a key part of gameplay from start to finish. The Necropolis Bells puzzle is one of these challenges, and it rewards you with two unique pieces of gear that can be easily missed if you skip it.

This puzzle isn’t particularly difficult; it requires you to find and ring five bells in a specific sequence. The order is indicated by symbols carved on five stones at the locked door. In this guide, we have mentioned how to complete the Necropolis bells puzzle in the game.
Where Is The Necropolis Bells Puzzle
To access the Necropolis bells puzzle, you will first need to recruit Emmrich as a companion in your party, which is a part of the story mission.
Once that is done, at the end of the “Vault of the Beloved” hallway, you will find a locked door. This will be unlocked when you complete the Walking the Graves (Emmrich: Outing side quest).
Completing this side quest will give you access to the Memorial Garden area in the Necropolis region, where you will find the Necropolis Bells puzzle.
Necropolis Bells Puzzle Solution
To solve the Necropolis bells puzzle, you’ll need to ring five bells located in the Memorial Gardens section of the Necropolis in a specific order.
Keep in mind that ringing the bells randomly or out of order will reset the puzzle.
Each bell has five stones displaying symbols that correspond to those found on the locked door near the first bell. Behind this door are two chests, and to unlock it, you’ll need to ring the bells in sequence, starting with the top symbol on the first bell and then matching each bell with the next symbol as you work your way down the five-symbol sequence.
To ring the first bell, which is right by the locked door, simply use Emmrich’s Placate Mischief ability to activate it. You don’t need Emmrich in your party to use this ability—just press the “Tab” key on PC or R1/RB on a PlayStation/Xbox controller to trigger the command.
Once you do, the first bell will ring and a Wisp will emerge from the well and quickly move toward the next bell.
You can try to follow the Wisp to find the next bell, but it often vanishes before reaching it. Instead, after ringing the first bell, turn around and head straight forward. Go up the stairs, and you’ll find the second bell on your right.
Ring it as you did the first, then turn around, head down the stairs, go straight, and take the first right. The third Necropolis bell will be on your right.
To locate the fourth Necropolis bell, follow the tiled path from where you found the third bell. At the end of this road, you’ll see the fourth bell on your left. Use Emmrich’s ability to ring it, then turn right.
You’ll notice a staircase going up, and just to the left of it is the fifth Necropolis bell. Once you ring the fifth bell, Rook will comment on something unlocking—that’s the door with five symbols near the first bell, now open.
