The main method for avoiding random encounters is by using a Holy Water. While active, Holy Water will ward off all random encounters from weaker enemies, letting you explore freely without any battles as long as your party is at a higher level than the monsters of that region.


Another option is the skill Padfoot, learned by the Thief Vocation at level 17. This ability lowers the overall encounter rate for 128 steps even if the monsters are at the same level or higher level than the party. This ability also only works when traveling in the overworld.

How Does Holy Water Work In Dragon Quest 3 Remake
