If there’s one thing that’s been a hot topic in the gaming community as of late, it’s the successor to the Nintendo Switch. Ever since Nintendo officially announced that it was working on the as-of-yet untitled console in May 2024, gamers have waited with bated breath for its reveal. Unfortunately, even though 2024 has almost come to an end, information on the upcoming system has been pretty scarce. While Nintendo did confirm that the Switch 2 would be unveiled sometime before March 31, 2025, and that it’d be backwards compatible with the current Nintendo Switch, it has yet to share specific details about the console. Its price, name, appearance, specifications, and release date are still a complete mystery.
Many industry commentators initially believed that the Switch 2 would be revealed in late 2024, but after Nintendo’s recent earnings call, the majority of them now think that it’ll be announced in early 2025 instead. If their prediction does hold up, then fans will have to wait at least a few more months until the system gets unveiled, though it’s anyone’s guess when that will happen. Despite the uncertainty surrounding its impending announcement, several games have already been confirmed for the Switch 2. Nintendo itself has yet to reveal any titles for the Nintendo Switch’s successor, of course, but a couple of third-party developers have hinted at their intent to support the unannounced console.

A Handful of Games Have Already Been Announced for the Nintendo Switch 2
A Switch 2 Port of Yooka-Replaylee Has Been Teased on Multiple Occasions
One of the games that has seemingly been announced for the Switch 2 is Yooka-Replaylee, an upcoming remaster of a 2017 platformer called Yooka-Laylee. For those unfamiliar with the title, Yooka-Laylee is a spiritual successor to the Banjo -Kazooie series, which has largely remained dormant since the mid-2000s. It was developed by Playtonic Games, a British studio made up of former Rare staff who worked on the original Banjo-Kazooie. Yooka-Laylee was initially released on PS4, Xbox One, PC, macOS, and Linux, but it was later ported to Nintendo Switch and Amazon Luna.
Playtonic Games announced Yooka-Replaylee for consoles and PCs in June 2024, though it didn’t announce specific platforms at the time. Eventually, on October 24, 2024, the company revealed that the game was in development for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and “Nintendo consoles.” The vague terminology used for the Nintendo consoles in question immediately sparked speculation that Yooka-Replaylee was a Switch 2 game, and subsequent teases from the developer seemed to affirm this.
My Time at Evershine is Coming to the Nintendo Switch’s Successor
In September 2024, the independent Chinese developer Pathea Games announced My Time at Evershine, the next installment in the My Time series of farming sims. While previous entries in the franchise were released on last-generation consoles like the Switch, My Time at Evershine will only launch on current-gen systems, specifically the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Windows PC. It will also be available on “future Nintendo platforms yet to be announced”; in other words, the Switch 2. My Time at Evershine has a more realistic art style compared to its predecessors, so it’s probably too demanding for the current Switch. As such, it’s likely to run better on Nintendo’s next console instead.

Bestario
from independent developer Wiggin Industries is also planned for the Switch 2, but since the game is slated to release in late 2026 at the earliest, it won’t come out near the launch of Nintendo’s next console.
The Legend of Dark Witch Episode 4 is the Only Confirmed Switch 2 Exclusive
The only other game that’s been confirmed for the Switch 2 so far is The Legend of Dark Witch Episode 4 : Thoughts Delivered. This title hasn’t gotten as much coverage as Yooka-Replaylee and My Time at Evershine have, but that’s because very little is known about it. The game, which is being developed by Inside Systems, is a new entry in The Legend of Dark Witch franchise, a 2D action platformer series that’s been around since 2015. The Legend of Dark Witch Episode 4 has only been announced for the “successor to the Nintendo Switch” at the moment, so it’s technically the console’s first known exclusive.
