Stardew Valley has seen tons of updates throughout the years. Sometimes, these updates just tweak the game slightly, but at times, they can add new content or completely change how you play. With the 1.6.9 update of Stardew Valley, we now have an official way to use cheat commands without the use of mods.
If you want to start using cheat commands but don’t know where to start, you’ve come to the right place. In this guide, we are going to take a look at how to use cheat commands in Stardew Valley. It’s important to note that you can only use cheat commands if you are able to edit your save file.
How To Enable Cheats
Cheats can’t be used after opening the game like usual. Instead, you’ll need to enable them; this can be done by editing your save file directly. To do this, press Windows and ‘R’ on your computer. This will open a ‘Run’ box, where you can type (or paste) the following.
Press OK, and you’ll open a file explorer window. Here, scroll down until you see Stardew Valley, and enter. Click on the file that says ‘Saves’, and you should be able to see all the save files that you have in the game. Our farm is called Windy Hill, so you can see that in the image above.
Only open the save file that is the name of your farm along with a number. If you see one that ends in ‘old’, you don’t need to interact with that.
At this point, you’ll now need to open the save file for your farm, which pulls up a notepad that’s packed with text. Instead of searching through the file, you can simply press Control and ‘F’ and search for the following.
This will focus on a line that shows the following text.
Once you’ve found this portion of text, you’re goal is to change the ‘false’ to ‘true’. With that, you’ve enabled cheats in Stardew Valley! From here, save and exit the notepad file and load the game like normal.
The edited line should read “
