Zelda Fan Makes Real-Life Wind Waker Baton

A fan of Nintendo’s Zelda series has shared their impressive creation with the community, crafting a real-life version of Link’s magical baton from The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker. Existing as one of the Japanese publisher’s flagship IPs, the Zelda franchise found phenomenal success last year with its Tears of the Kingdom release, but aside from the Nintendo Switch-era games, Zelda fans hold beloved past titles in high regard, including The Wind Waker.

The action-adventure game was released in 2003 on the GameCube and later received a high-definition remaster on the Wii U in 2013. The Wind Waker also gained 2007’s Phantom Hourglass and 2009’s Spirit Tracks as two direct sequels on the Nintendo DS. A Russian retailer recently teased a Zelda: The Wind Waker HD Nintendo Switch port, which some fans are taking as gospel among the Switch 2 hype. Being a staple franchise in Nintendo’s catalog, fans hope the successor console has a lot of Zelda surprises in store.

Posted on Reddit by Anth-Oni, a series of photos was shared with the Zelda fandom, showcasing a real-life version of Link’s baton from The Wind Waker. The creator noted in the comments that the baton was made from PLA (Polylactic acid) plastic, which is a filament material used in 3D printing. Zelda: The Wind Waker HD has become one of the hardest games to track down in the franchise, but since it’s a treasured classic, fans love to see the game being honored in artistic ways. Luckily for Redditors, the creator has allowed other 3D printers access to the STL file for free via their Patreon, allowing artists to print their own baton.

Demonstrating fans’ artistic talents further, another Zelda enthusiast built a wood carving of the King of the Red Lions from The Wind Waker, and fans of the Redditor’s baton didn’t waste time showering the creation with praise. Several users asked if the baton was for sale, which reminded the creator to list it on Etsy. Another fan questioned how Link could wield such a hefty item in-game with only two fingers, and the creator agreed.

The Wind Waker baton is a recurring item in the Zelda series, designed after a conductor’s tool. Lore says that the baton was used by the King of Hyrule to conduct the mythical Sages during their song to summon the gods. The Sages are reincarnated in multiple Zelda titles, including Tears of the Kingdom, which saw Link call upon the Sages’ power to help thwart Ganondorf.
