While the three treasures of Tantegel form some of the most powerful pieces of equipment you can find in Dragon Quest 3 Remake, a shining new helmet was oddly absent from the line-up. Perhaps you thought Ortega’s Helmet would be enough to carry you through the game?

The Sword of Kings in DQ3 is a mighty weapon, but quite the task to repair. Here’s how to restore it to its former glory.
Well, no longer must you don the same battered and beaten helmet as your father. Nay, for the Auroral Helm is now within reach, though actually getting it in the first place isn’t the most straightforward process. Let’s walk you through it and get your skull some extra protection.
How To Get Another Wrecking Ball
When you meet Robbin’ ‘Ood in the cell beside the church in Tantegel, he’ll ask you to visit his henchmen, claiming they’d love to see a familiar face all the way out here in Alefgard. So go give them a visit in the under-construction cave south of Kol.
They’ll mention some special stone they wanted to get from somewhere in Gaia’s Navel, but that they’d need one really big bomb to get it. And that’s it. No other hints beyond that. So where exactly do you get this bomb? By visiting another familiar face, of course.
If you find the blue stone in question in Gaia’s Navel, it will give a slightly stronger hint as to where you should get this bomb.
At the beginning of the game, you had to travel to Reeve to get a Wrecking Ball from an old man to open the way through the Path of Promise. Pay him another visit to ask for another bomb. He will say, rather coincidentally, that he just finished making another one and hands it over.
Acquiring Zenithium
In Gaia’s Navel, you may recall in the final room that you can go either north or south, with the latter originally leading to a dead-end. You could always interact with the blue stone in the wall, the Zenithium, though you couldn’t do anything with it. The Wrecking Ball changes that.
Interact with the Zenithium again and place the Wrecking Ball down in front of it. Once it blows, the blue stone will fly free from the wall completely undamaged. You finally have some Zenithium. Except why were you even gathering this in the first place? Return to the henchmen to get your next instructions.
Returning to the henchmen at this point isn’t actually necessary, though you can still visit them for a hint.
Upgrading Ortega’s Helmet
With Zenithium in tow, the henchmen will explain that they planned on bringing the blue stone to some dwarf up north past Mur. He’s a master craftsman, apparently, and could turn it into something real special. You may have even met this Dwarf already, who was a close friend of Ortega.
His shrine is indeed north of Mur, though quite a bit more north than you might expect. If you follow the coast from Mur you will eventually come across the Shrine of the Dwarf, a small building housing just the Dwarf and his pet. Head on in.
If you hadn’t met him prior to this, he’ll share his backstory with Ortega. Otherwise, he’ll welcome you back, noting the Zenithium in your possession. He’ll ask, as a means of repaying the debt he owes to both you and Ortega, to upgrade his helmet. Make sure to say yes.
After a few days of work, Ortega’s Helmet will become the Auroral helm, one of the most powerful helmets in the entire game. It still retains many elements of Ortega’s original helmet, but has some flourishes unique to the Hero, as well.
