The Most Valuable Primeape Pokemon TCG Cards

Finding a Pokemon in the Pokemon TCG who doesn’t have at least one expensive card is difficult, but Primeape parades its most valuable cards without much fanfare due to their affordability. After all, when was the last time you met someone who couldn’t live another moment without the latest and greatest Primeape card? Probably never.

Just some metal ‘mons bonding and flexing.

Unfortunately, if you’re one of the few waiting for a triumphant moment for Primeape, your wait will continue, as even this Pokemon’s top card fails to break the $20 plateau. However, on the other side of the coin, you’ll be ecstatic to know you can start collecting all of Primeape’s – and even Mankey’s – most valuable cards without breaking the bank if you enjoy this enraged monkey pig.

Cards are ordered according to their TCGPlayer Market Price, which you might pay on average for a copy of the (first edition, where applicable) cards below.

Given the age and rarity of these cards, only those with an established market price on TCGplayer are included.

However, sale prices differ depending on the card’s condition, so this market price is just a rough idea of the card’s value.

Brock’s Primeape: Gym Challenge First Edition (Uncommon) – $2.93

Hands Up At The Primeape Party

Brock's Primeape from Gym Challenge in the Pokemon TCG.

Brock returns with a Primeape to complement his Mankey from Gym Challenge, both of which fail to crack the top ten most valuable cards in Gym Challenge. While this failure may not surprise you, it’s disappointing to see Primeape represented with only an Uncommon card in this set, considering how special some of the other cards look.

Disappointment aside, Brock’s Primeape trades in a fairly tight range, with the cheapest copies fetching roughly $1.50, with clean cards commanding closer to four dollars, which is a significant percentage increase despite the relatively low cost in total dollars.

Dark Primeape: Team Rocket First Edition (Uncommon) – $2.96

Walk A Lonely Road

The Primeape from Team Rocket First Edition in the Pokemon TCG.

Dark Primeape is one of the most iconic depictions of Primeape we’ve ever received, with this muscular Fighting-type Pokemon visibly exhausted after what seems like an epic battle.

While Uncommon cards typically don’t command much value compared to Holo Rares and other special versions, most of Primeape’s best cards don’t ascend the rarity tiers, leaving only Rare cards or worse in most cases.

Despite a noticeable difference in cost, first edition copies are still relatively cheap, with moderately played (MP) copies of this card only selling for slightly more than one dollar. However, lightly played (LP) copies double to two dollars, with near-mint (NM) cards setting the top end of the range at about five dollars.

3

Primeape: Paldean Fates (Shiny Rare) – $3.23

A Sickly Shiny

The Primeape Shiny Holo Rare from Paldean Fates in the Pokemon TCG.

Paldean Fates continues to ebb and flow since its release, with the chase card, the Mew ex (a.k.a. Bubble Mew), leading the pack with an impressive surge in value. However, Primeape hasn’t mimicked the top cards in Paldean Fates, as this “baby shiny” continues to tread water.

Articuno’s prices need to chill.

Primeape’s price chart paints a bleak picture of this card’s future, with its value seeming destined to bounce between two and four dollars, settling in the middle for long periods. However, momentum is on this Pokemon’s side for now, as it pushes to leave the two-dollar range behind.

Primeape In Paradise

The Primeape Southern Islands Promo from the Pokemon TCG.

If you aren’t familiar with the Southern Islands promo set and some of its best cards, then Primeape is just a small sample of what you can expect in this fantastic set. Primeape (and every Pokemon featured in the set) shares the spotlight with the verdant, tropical scenes and at least one other Pokemon who’s also enjoying stress relief in paradise.

Heavily played (HP) cards start at about five dollars, with LP jumping up to the nine-dollar mark, followed lastly by NM cards topping the charts at closer to $16 or $17, illustrating the importance placed on conditions for cards from this promo set. This card is worth every penny, as one of the best visual depictions of the Pokemon.

Primeape: Aquapolis (Rare) – $17.85

Rising Above

The Primeape Rare from Aquapolis in the Pokemon TCG.

Aquapolis is renowned for its expensive collection of cards that are nearly impossible to find in NM conditions, with Primeape standing as yet another example.

While it’s shocking to see a non-Holo Rare claim the title, this Primeape’s art offers a surprisingly enjoyable illustration that exceeds its rarity tier.

This Primeape continues its strong run up the charts, beginning at just about ten dollars and continuing its ascent to about the $17 mark, where its market price currently hovers. Although the upward momentum seems to be dying down, this Primeape is likely to keep its place on the back of a strong increase.
