Pokemon Reveals Gold & Silver 25th Anniversary Merch Range

Pokemon Reveals Gold & Silver 25th Anniversary Merch Range

Key Takeaways

  • Pokemon has revealed a 25th-anniversary collection to celebrate the release of Gold & Silver.
  • The range includes plushes, jackets, and a lot more unique merch officially tied to the games.
  • It’s all exclusive to Japan for now, but will hopefully be made available elsewhere in the future.

Pokemon has a big anniversary coming up, and with less than a week to go until the big day, you might have assumed it wouldn’t be doing anything to mark the occasion. Gold & Silver, the well-loved and massively successful sequels to the games that started it all, turn 25 next week, and Pokemon has unveiled a loaded collection of merchandise coming to its Japanese Pokemon Center next month.

Yes, unfortunately this is another instance of Pokemon merch being released in Japan and nowhere else, although if it sells well enough, it almost always gets rolled out in the US and at various other Pokemon Centers around the world. In Pokemon’s defense, much like its anniversary collection, Gold & Silver were exclusively released in Japan at first. The sequels wouldn’t find their way to the US until October 2000, so perhaps this range will make its way stateside sometime next year.

Pokemon Has Added A Riolu Bundle To Its Build-A-Bear Range For The Holidays

Riolu has joined Build-A-Bear’s Pokemon collection, meaning there are now 20 available via its online store.

As for the Gold & Silver-themed products you’ll be able to buy from Japan’s Pokemon Center starting from November 23, there’s a lot to go through. Leading the way are two premium plushes – one for Ho-Oh, and one for Lugia, the games’ cover Pokemon. Gold & Silver’s cover art can also be found on some anniversary snack bags, and some Game Boy cartridge-shaped boxes that have stickers inside designed to look like some of the games’ sprites.

I’ll Take A Jacket, The Bin, And A Tall, Cold Bottle Of Eraser Tape

The plushes are great, but the jackets are the real centerpiece of the collection. Each game has its own jacket, both featuring the aforementioned legendary birds on the chest. The Gold jacket has Ho-Oh on the back and gold material down the sides, and Silver’s has Lugia and silver materials. The best part about both jackets is what’s waiting on the inside. The lining is a map of Johto, and that’s not the only place it can be found in the collection.

You’ll also be able to buy a garbage bin with the map printed on it along with a message that reads “Nope, there’s only trash here” inside, the same prompt that appears in the games when you search for something in an empty bin. Other highlights in Pokemon’s upcoming Gold & Silver collection include eraser tape disguised as Moo Moo Milk, bookends that look like in-game sprites, and so much more, all of which can be found in the images and Twitter thread above courtesy of PokeJungle.
