From Peacemaker to Omni-Man, Mortal Kombat 1 has brought some of the most popular characters of recent memory into the gruesome brawler. Now that the Khaos Reigns expansion is under way, the newest pop culture icon to get a shining moment in Mortal Kombat 1‘s spotlight is Scream‘s Ghostface.




As one of the most recognizable names in modern horror, the Ghostface moniker has been adopted by multiple killers, and Mortal Kombat 1 plays around with this in a fun way. Ghostface in Mortal Kombat 1 fully embraces the horror franchise’s self-referential commentary, especially when it comes to the character’s most recently revealed Fatality. While finishing one’s opponent, the screen will pan out, revealing Johnny Cage playing the game and complaining about being beaten by “a dude with a knife.” Suddenly, Ghostface pops up from behind and stabs him to death, completely breaking the fourth wall.
