Mortal Kombat 1 Fans Have Already Figured Out Ghostface’s Identity

Mortal Kombat 1 Fans Have Already Figured Out Ghostface's Identity

Key Takeaways

  • Earlier this week, a gameplay trailer for Mortal Kombat 1’s version of Ghostface confirmed that it’s three separate characters.
  • The identity of two of the fighters under Ghostface’s mask has seemingly been figured out.
  • Two of the Ghostfaces appear to use moves from classic Mortal Kombat characters, making it clear who they’re meant to be.

Mortal Kombat 1 fans have already figured out who two of the characters dressed up as Ghostface are supposed to be, and they’re both deep cuts from the 3D era.

As Omni-Man, Homelander, and Peacemaker have already proven to us, Mortal Kombat 1 hasn’t been afraid to get a little out there with its DLC guest fighters. That’s about to continue with its second Kombat Pack, which is adding Conan the Barbarian, Terminator 2’s T-100, and, most interestingly of all, Ghostface from Scream.

Mortal Kombat 1 Needs More Gaming Guest Characters

Mortal Kombat often celebrates its history with action and horror icons, but gaming is part of that legacy too.

While Ghostface might seem like a bit of a strange pick considering they’re usually just a knife-wielding person in a mask, fans have theorised that Mortal Kombat 1 would mix things up by having some Mortal Kombat characters under the hood. That theory seems to be correct, as the first gameplay trailer for the character (or is that characters?) has hinted at who it might be.

Mortal Kombat 1’s Ghostfaces Are Seemingly Deception’s Kobra And Kira

Although a lot of Ghostface’s gameplay footage shows him using his knife and stumbling around as you’d expect, there are a few moments where he busts out some surprisingly magical moves. As theorised by Twitter user PNDKetchup, it seems that two of the three Ghostfaces we see in Mortal Kombat 1 are actually Kobra and Kira from Mortal Kombat: Deception.

Kobra and Kira are some massive deep cuts, as both fighters are generally regarded as some of the most pointless Mortal Kombat characters of all time. Turning them into Ghostface’s underlings is very clever, if the theory is true.

PNDKetchup points out that one of the Ghostfaces, known as Ghostface Enforcer, uses a flaming flipkick and a flaming roundhouse as part of their moveset, which seems to be taken from Kobra. The other, known as Ghostface Assassin, appears to be Kira, as they’re shown using the Black Dragon Ball and Kiss of Death as their unique moves.

Considering how unique those moves are and how it’s really only Kira and Kobra who have used them in the past, it seems very likely that those two are Ghostface Enforcer and Ghostface Assassin. We’ll have to wait for Ghostface’s release to know for sure, but it seems very likely to be the case from what’s been shown so far.

We still don’t know who the third Ghostface in the game is just yet, but it’s probably meant to be a character from Scream instead of another MK throwback. There’s not enough evidence to know for sure, but that’s another thing that’ll likely be confirmed when the DLC releases later this month.
