The fight against the Automaton is straightforward, and it’s not hard to find either. The entrance to the underground cave where you can find the boss is a bit hidden, but you’ll only need to find it once.

To reach the cave with the Secret Source Automaton, head to the eastern part of the Toyac Springs, south of Teticpac Peak. The best landmark is the Teleport Waypoint on the small peninsula looking south over the water.

From the Waypoint, head south by southwest until you see a bridge reaching out to a small rocky outcropping. Beneath the bridge is the hole in the ground that leads into the boss’s cave.

The biggest hurdles you need to overcome to beat the Secret Source Automaton are its higher-than-average health pool and ultimate attack, the Boltsphere Cannon, a massive blast of Electro energy that can one-shot weaker characters.

Thankfully, the Automaton’s attack list isn’t particularly long, and all of its attacks are easy to deal with.

Attack

Strategy

Aerial Bombardment

The boss’s opener sees it aiming its main turret at the ceiling and sending three Electro beams into the air, which fall on your location after about a second. Dodge out of the radius that appears on the ground to avoid it.

Spinning Laser

The boss plants its feet and releases a pair of turrets that float around its top, sending out lasers in two semicircle patterns. You can dodge through them or get far away enough to avoid this attack.

Tracking Laser

The boss floats into the air and aims its central turret at you, sending out a laser that tracks you. Sprinting perpendicular to the boss or being directly beneath it avoids this attack.

Claw Slam

The boss transforms into a three-toed claw and slams the ground at your location. Moving directly away from the slam avoids this attack.

Claw Swipe and Lasers

The boss transforms into a claw and swipes the air at your location, then shoots several small laser beams at you. Sprinting and dodging perpendicular to the boss avoids this attack.

Boltsphere Cannon

The boss’s ultimate attack summons a pair of phlogiston pillars with two Accretion Mechanisms above them. You can climb the pillars using a character from the Children of Echoes region of Natlan or transform into a Tepetlisaurus. Characters with vertical momentum, like Kazuha, can also reach the top of the pillars. Destroying both Mechanisms before the attack is fully charged will stun the boss for about ten seconds. If the attack goes off, it deals massive Electro damage across the entire arena, but you can avoid the AoE by dodging right before the spherical bomb explodes.

Swiping Lasers

This attack only occurs if you have Natlan characters that enter a Nightsoul’s Blessing state on your team and only if you use them long enough. The attack itself sees small turrets shoot lasers that create two sets of parallel lines. After this attack finishes, the boss moves into its ultimate attack.

You can use any viable party setup to defeat the Secret Source Automaton, as the only barrier is its health pool. It lacks any particular elemental resistances beyond those you’d find in other Natlan Automaton enemies.

The Secret Source Automaton awards the same materials and Artifacts you’d find on other world bosses, save for its elemental drops (Vajrada Amethyst) and its unique material, Gold-Inscribed Secret Source Core, which is used to breach the level gates of specific Natlan characters, including Xilonen.
