Helldivers 2 players have been toiling for months, completing one major order after another to ensure that the Democracy Space Station gets built and becomes fully operational. Super Earth’s version of the Death Star has finally gone online and leverages the power of democracy (and artillery) to help with on-ground operations.

Helldivers 2 has stalled in a big way, and I need something new to kill
However, players were disappointed to learn that much like the Death Star, it’s a bad idea to be on the planet it’s being used upon. Helldivers can vote to decide which planet the weapon will be fired upon and donate samples to keep it running, but it looks like the player base is massively disappointed with the final result.
A Planetwide 350mm Artillery Barrage
The now operational DSS offers players three options in terms of orbital support. Planetary Bombardment drops artillery on bugs and bots throughout the mission, Eagle Storm offers the same in the form of air strikes, and Orbital Blockade targets enemy ships trying to leave orbit. However, players soon found out that these tactical actions don’t differentiate between friend and foe.
If either of the first two options are chosen, players will have to carry out missions amidst the bombardment, effectively increasing the chances of getting hit by their own support strikes. If anything, the DSS makes diving down to the planet it’s focussed on more dangerous, even resulting in full-team wipes. Players have been quick to voice their concerns on Reddit.
“Two months for this… well thought out feature that just bombs you. My team getting wiped because of the Planetary Bombardment,” said one post. “Wasn’t this supposed to help us? This is honestly kind of insulting, we made a Super Weapon to kill ourselves. Who thought that randomly and frequently bombing where the players are at random would be a fun experience for the player? Is this a joke….? What is this?
“And I’m being spoiled when I say the DSS is disappointing? Arrowhead… come on now… what were you thinking?”
“Finally [Arrowhead] listened and gave the bots a stratagem to even the playing field,” joked one comment. “First mission with it we lost probably 10 reinforcements from the DSS. It killed maybe like 2 robots. It aims at us when the closest robot is 120 meters away. Like actually what is the thought process behind this?” said another.
It appears that after all that hard work of putting together the DSS, the space station has only made the lives of Helldivers harder. Perhaps the devs need to adjust the DSS to aim away from where the squad is on the map, or figure something else out. But, as it stands, the DSS is more of a hindrance than support.
