Grand Theft Auto Trilogy‘s latest update now allows players to run and shoot while using shotguns, assault rifles, and flamethrowers. While the Grand Theft Auto Trilogy Definitive Edition had a very rocky start when it was first released, the developers’ continuous support for the title has salvaged the remake.

Grand Theft Auto Trilogy‘s November 2024 patch introduced a list of changes that brought the game in-line with the better-received mobile ports. These updates include a classic lighting option that restores the look and feel of the sky from the original titles, as well as fixing several bugs which are said to improve the player experience as a whole. However, a huge new feature not mentioned in the patch is one that hasn’t been introduced in any of the other versions.

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas Almost Had a Very Different Map

A developer who worked on Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas reveals that the game’s map was almost very different in a significant way.

Twitter user Besk posted a list of changes that were not mentioned in the latest Grand Theft Auto Trilogy update, which includes the ability to run around with several weapons from Grand Theft Auto. The mobile ports and the classic versions did not have these features, which makes the Trilogy versions unique. It was not mentioned why this feature was introduced specifically in this version, but it’s a change that fans agree with. However, one user asked why this feature wasn’t included in the new San Andreas. Another user replied that San Andreas utilizes different shooting mechanics than the other two titles.

What Other Changes Were Introduced in the Latest Grand Theft Auto Trilogy Update?

While many would say that the ability to run and shoot could be the biggest update that the developers could introduce, Besk actually discovered more changes that were left unlisted. Apart from fixing GTA Trilogy‘s game-breaking bugs, the visuals and animations were improved. Some of these items include an adjustment to CJ’s soda drinking animation, the addition of various details to the map graphics, and the ability to pause during cutscenes in all three games, among others. A glitch that allowed players to skip to other islands early on has also been patched out, ensuring that these areas are only available once certain progress is achieved.

Besk also shared that Rockstar might have a new team dealing with the bugs and glitches. It’s interesting to note that one visual change found by various members of the community is that some of Grove Street Games logos are missing on a few screens. Grove Street Games has been in charge of the GTA Trilogy Definitive Edition since its announcement, so some players were surprised to hear this news. However, Besk clarifies that Grove Street Games were the ones who introduced the hundreds of fixes included in the latest patch, and that the team was never removed from the actual credits. Still, all the updates shared by Besk make it look like the GTA Trilogy Definitive Edition may be closer to the modern experience that players had hoped for when the game was first released.
