Overwatch 2’s Mid-Season 13 Update Looks to the Past as Well as the Present

The arrival of Overwatch 2‘s mid-season 13 update coincides with an event tied to another massive Blizzard franchise, Warcraft. With the popular and influential fantasy IP currently celebrating its 30th anniversary, Overwatch 2 players who play at any time between November 15 and November 22 will receive free Warcraft-related in-game rewards as just a taste of what the mid-season update has to offer.

The main bulk of attention surrounding season 13’s mid-season changes is aimed at the arrival of the Overwatch: Classic game mode to Overwatch 2. Starting from November 12 and lasting until December 2, Overwatch: Classic aims to recapture the nostalgic chaos of the franchise’s earliest gameplay iterations, kicking things off with the classic hero roster, as well as iconic past maps like Hanamura, Temple of Anubis, and Volskaya Industries. Overwatch: Classic even recaptures the original abilities and skill sets of the IP’s earliest characters, with the likes of Hanzo’s Scatter Arrow ability making a brief but welcome return.

Overwatch: Classic is the perfect way to allow long-time fans to relive the 6v6 chaos of the franchise’s earlier gameplay prior to Overwatch 2, while also serving as a way for newer fans to get a more complete picture of the franchise’s origins. Alongside this, Competitive Drives make a return to Overwatch 2 with the mid-season 13 update, lasting from November 29 to December 2. Competitive Drives were first introduced in season 12, being a great way to incentivize players in the final push of a given season’s ranked play. Each Competitive Play win between November 29 and December 2 will grant players Drive Score, with enough points unlocking coveted rewards such as season-specific nameplate signatures and Competitive Points.

Balance Changes and a New Mythic Weapon Skin Do Well to Bring Overwatch 2’s Season 13 to a Close

A new Mythic weapon skin has also been added to Overwatch 2, with Soldier 76 being the lucky recipient of the Mythic Deliverance skin for his Heavy Pulse Rifle. This premium skin comes with four stages of interactivity that increase with player eliminations, turning high kill-streaks into massive spectacles of ghostly aura. This skin is accessible through the Mythic Deliverance Soldier: 76 Complete Weapon Bundle, coming with an additional 20 tier skips for the season 13 battle pass.

Finally, Overwatch 2‘s mid-season 13 celebrations also include a range of hero balance changes. For example, Doomfist now has a more lenient angle window for wall slam attacks, with his Meteor Strike ability now having a reduced Ultimate cost and greater self-healing. Nerfs have also been introduced to Junker Queen’s Jagged Blade and Adrenaline Rush, with Mauga also getting a much-needed buff to his Overrun ability. Many other support and damage heroes have also received minor tweaks to mark the mid-season 13 update, hopefully bringing even more balance to Overwatch 2‘s in-game roster as season 13 winds to a close.
