Xbox closed out 2024 with a bang, releasing Call Of Duty: Black Ops 6, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, and Indiana Jones And The Great Circle in less than two months. It will ride that momentum into 2025 too as it has now confirmed that delayed Avowed will be released on February 18, 2025. Xbox boss Phil Spencer also confirmed that the delay wasn’t to polish the game but to give players a chance to finish other stuff before its arrival.

Avowed’s director says that romanceable companions are hard to balance with a meaningful friendship route.
It’s the Xbox-owned games mentioned above that might have overshadowed Avowed had it released any earlier. However, it now finds itself launching in what has quickly become one of the busiest months for big launches in recent history. If you’re not tempted by the likes of Assassin’s Creed Shadows or Like A Dragon: Pirate Yakuza In Hawaii, or you plan on paying Avowed alongside them, pre-orders for the upcoming Xbox exclusive are now live, and everything you need to know about them can be found below.
Differences Between Avowed’s Standard And Premium Editions
There are technically three editions of Avowed to choose from since the premium edition has a special version that comes with physical goodies. Everything included with each edition can be found below.

The most appealing reason to pick up one of Avowed’s slightly more expensive editions is the early access, particularly if you plan on picking up some of the other big games launching around the Xbox exclusive. Both of Avowed’s premium editions come with five days of early access. You’ll also get some skin packs, a look and a listen at its digital artbook and soundtrack whenever you like, and a physical version of the game’s map plus a SteelBook if you opt for the most expensive edition available.
Avowed is a next-gen RPG from Obsidian Entertainment. It is set in the same world as the developer’s Pillars of Eternity series, and is played in first person. In the Living Lands of Eora, you must put an end to a mysterious plague.
Playing And Upgrading Avowed On Xbox Game Pass
If you were already worried about how much you’ll potentially be spending on games this February, don’t worry, Avowed is still coming to Game Pass. You will need either Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass though since it will be a day one release. There will also be a way to upgrade to the premium edition even though only the standard edition will be available on Game Pass.
Xbox has already released a premium upgrade (available to pre-order at Best Buy and GameStop) for $24.99 for those who plan on playing Avowed through Game Pass but want the premium perks. The upgrade includes the five days of early access, provided you buy it more than five days before release day, as well as extra skins and access to the digital artbook and soundtrack.
Avowed will be released on Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Game Pass on February 18, 2025, and those with early access will be able to start playing from February 13, 2025.
FAQ
Will Avowed Be As Big As Skyrim?
Avowed has naturally been compared to Skyrim quite a bit, and although Obsidian’s initial pitch included its new fantasy game being on a similar scale, the end product will be smaller than the latest Elder Scrolls game.
Is Avowed A Sequel Or A Prequel?
Even though Avowed takes place in the same universe as Obsidian’s Pillars Of Eternity games, it’s not directly connected to them. However, in-game references confirm it is set after Pillars Of Eternity 2.
