EA Sports UFC 5 developer EA Vancouver has announced that players can now claim Mike Tyson, a previously paid DLC fighter, for free up until November 19. Mike Tyson was one of EA Sports UFC 5‘s many paid DLC fighters that could be purchased individually via the PlayStation Store or Xbox Store, or by purchasing the game’s Deluxe Edition, which, when pre-ordered, also included other combat sports icons such as Fedor Emelianenko, Muhammad Ali, and three Bruce Lee alter egos.
Following its release in 2023, EA Vancouver has released a steady stream of new updates for EA Sports UFC 5, adding a plethora of new ranked fighters to the game’s roster. After fans made their voices heard regarding the rather lackluster number of ranked UFC fighters in the game, EA promised the community it would be releasing free fighters on a regular basis and has since reached 98% parity with the current UFC top ten rankings. While some fighters, such as Muhammed Ali, Fedor Emelianenko, and Mike Tyson remain locked behind a paywall, EA is giving players the opportunity to grab the latter at no additional cost for a limited time.

The sudden giveaway is to celebrate the upcoming fight between boxing legend Mike Tyson and controversial YouTuber turned boxer, Jake Paul. The event will be streamed live on Netflix on November 15 following the fight’s postponement from its original date of July 20. While the bout has divided boxing fans on whether or not it should even be going ahead, it’s generating plenty of buzz as the pre-fight documentary, Countdown: Paul vs. Tyson, has made its way into Netflix’s most-watched shows.
While EA still continues to add new fighters regularly, new rumors suggest that the studio has recently begun development on EA Sports UFC 6, the nest installment in the popular mixed martial arts fighting game. According to an industry insider, the sequel is now in full production at EA, with the studio reportedly targeting a release sometime in 2025, just two years after the launch of the latest entry.
