After you recruit Emmrich in Dragon Age: The Veilguard, you can return to the Necropolis where he works at any time. In fact, you’ll need to if you want to complete side quests and boost the Mourn Watch power level.
Soon after Emmrich makes himself at home in the Lighthouse, he mentions a problem he noticed back in the Necropolis, specifically regarding a set of disturbed wisps. You can complete the “Restless Spirits” quest without going far from the Hollow Belfry, making it the best side quest to finish first when you start exploring the area.

How to Solve the Hollow Belfry Wisp Puzzles
There are a total of four lost wisps in the Hollow Belfry. You can find each one behind a closed door marked with a purple flame, and once you collect them you’ll need to bring them to a set of four skeletons next to a large door. The door will open once all four wisps are in their proper “receptacles.”
The four wisps can be found in the following locations:
- Behind the door to the left of the skeleton receptacles, you’ll find two large braziers. Interact with each one to light them. The platform between them will then begin to glow, so use Emmrich’s Placate Mischief to summon the wisp. Walk up to it and bring it over to the skeletons.
- The next door counterclockwise leads to a red lyrium barrier. First, pull the lever to the left to open a door clockwise from the one you just entered. Break the crates to reveal a red lyrium crystal. Break it, then look to the left to spot another breakable crystal. Then return to the first room and break more crates to reveal a third crystal. With all three down, you can destroy the barrier. Grab the wisp, and don’t forget to open the large chest.
- The third door features another lever, this one hidden behind breakable boxes to the right. Pull it to open the next door counterclockwise. In the new room, you can break through a wooden barrier to the right to pick up a Memento and read an interesting note. For its part, the wisp will have moved to the central chamber, but it’s floating too high up to reach. You’ll need to open a rift with Lucanis’ Spiteful Aura and summon a giant skeletal hand.
- The fourth door has an unusual requirement. First, break all the crates and barrels in the room. This will let you find all the wall sconces, including the ones on the floor by the candle table. Activate all five to light every candle, and the wisp will appear.

How to Beat the Orbiting Envy Demon
Finding all four wisps will open the big door on the northwest side of the Hollow Belfry, but this quest isn’t over just yet. You still need to enter the chamber you unsealed and fight the Orbiting Envy Demon that appears inside.
The Envy Demon uses magic attacks to fight at range, and it starts with a strong barrier. It’s vulnerable to electricity but resists necrotic damage. Its special attacks include:
- A set of six laser strikes.
- An orb that erupts from the ground, then projects a spinning laser for several seconds.
- A slow but high-damage green projectile.
Supporting the Envy Demon are two sets of two shades. The first two appear when the Envy Demon appears, and the second pair appears as soon as you defeat the first pair. Nothing appears after you take down the second pair, so you may want to focus on them until the demon is alone. Shades are vulnerable to cold, but resist necrotic.
The quest ends when you finish the fight. You get 130 XP and +50 Mourn Watch Strength, and you can pick up some valuable items in the area. This includes two Mementos, one large chest, and one small chest. Finally, if you approach the door at the far end of the room, you’ll start the side quest “Pinnacle of Its Kind.”
