Dragon Age: The Veilguard – Arlathan Forest Owl Statue Puzzle Solution

Dragon Age: The Veilguard - Arlathan Forest Owl Statue Puzzle Solution

Dragon Age: Veilguard, the latest release from Bioware, is a more linear RPG set in the high fantasy world of Thedas. Veilguard comes complete with everything fans expect from a Dragon Age game: a strong cast of characters, well-written and richly realized companions, quests, and more than a small handful of puzzles to spice up game play. While some puzzles come with easy to understand clues, others are presented as-is for the player to ponder over at their convenience.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard – All Romances, Ranked

Dragon Age: The Veilguard comes with seven romances for Rook to experience, but not all of them are equally quite as engaging.

Players can encounter a puzzle early on in the game, during the very first expedition to the Arlathan Forest region. After leaving the Veil Jumper camp, players can encounter an owl statue with a glowing glyph, along with an inscription. Here’s how to solve the owl statue puzzle.

Find The First Owl Statue In Arlathan Forest

The owl statue is located in the first wide area of the Arlathan Forest map, just after leaving the Veil Jumper camp. There’s a boat in this area along with some blocked off pathways, depending on what stage in the game the owl statue is encountered. Interact with the owl statue to reveal its inscription, which tells of a secret. Fortunately, the inscription does also provide the answer to the riddle.

Interact With The Owl Statue Again

Click Owl Twice

To solve the first part of the puzzle, simply interact with the owl statue once more. Rook will then decide that since the forest is already quite strange, mimicking an owl’s cry is a valid thing to try. This works, and solves the first part of the owl quest, by allowing Rook to interact with the owl statues. But, there are more owl statues hidden in Arlathan Forest.

Find More Owl Statues In Arlathan Forest

ancient aqueduct owl with enemies

There are more owl statues scattered throughout the Arlathan Forest zone, and all of them can be interacted with in the same way as the first.

There are also
owl statues in the Fade
which look slightly different, and Rook will comment on these too, but they don’t seem to be part of this quest/puzzle in the same way as the owl statues in Arlathan Forest. Despite appearing in a few Fade locations, there are
no specific interactions with these statues
.

Subsequent owl statues in Arlathan Forest will be booby-trapped, releasing rocks or other hazards such as enemies. Once dealt with, there will be treasure or a note left behind. The notes detail an explorer’s attempts to catalog and understand the owl statues.

Arlathan Forest Owl Statue Puzzle Rewards

Unfortunately, there doesn’t seem to be a proper reward for completing this puzzle. The rewards are minor rewards from each of the statues, along with the messages some leave. Finding more statues doesn’t appear to reward a Codex entry or anything like that. While it’s possible there is something in the Fade relating to these owls, such an event has not been discovered. This guide will be updated should more information come to light. Definitely not the most rewarding puzzle in Arlathan Forest.
