It’s death Sim, but not as we know it.

The pack adds the ability to hold formal funerals for your dearly departed Sims, events they’re able to influence long before their death if they leave behind a will. Gather their family and friends at the cemetery to say goodbye with a funeral in The Sims 4.

How Do You Hold A Funeral?

When a Sim’s time has come in The Sims 4: Life & Death, the Sims they’ve left behind are able to plan a funeral event for the departed Sim to celebrate the life of a deceased Sim. No matter how long ago the death happened, a Sim can create a funeral event for any ghost with whom they have a relationship in the Relationships tab. Family and friends are rendered as ghosts upon their passing, so you can create a funeral event whenever your Sims are ready to say farewell.

Curiously, you can have several funerals for the same Sim.

When it’s time, you can plan a funeral like any other social event in The Sims 4, like by going on your phone in the Social tab or using the calendar beneath your active Sim’s portrait. The event planning screen will appear, and you’ll choose Funeral from the list of available options. You’ll need to select the departed Sim in the ornate section of the next menu before selecting a host Sim, which is typically the Sim planning the event.

On the event-planning screen, you can decide a guest list of up to eight other Sims, as well as hiring an entertainer if you’d like. You can even Hire Mourners to flesh out the funeral turn-out a little, up to four at any funeral. The next choice you’ll need to make for the event is choosing a dress code and color under the Guest Attire menu at the bottom of the Plan an Event screen. A list of Guest Attire requests isn’t a requirement for a funeral, but it does keep a theme.

How To Get A Better Score On A Funeral

The next selection you’ll need to make when planning a funeral in The Sims 4: Life & Death is which Funeral Activities to have at the funeral. It may seem a little odd to be worried about the “quality” of your funeral, but you don’t want to send your Sims off to the great beyond without a bang, right? Like other social events in The Sims 4, funerals in Life & Death are goal-oriented events.

After choosing which activities to include in the funeral event, you’ll be given goals based around your chosen funeral events to complete, all of which contribute to the score of the funeral. Choose however you feel is best to honor the departed Sim, choosing at least three activities, but you can choose each one if you so desire.

The final selection you’ll need to make is where and when to have the funeral. You can choose to have it in a number of places, like the departed Sim’s home lot if you’d like to keep things casual and homey for the family, or the Eternal Rest cemetery in the Crow’s Crossing neighborhood of Ravenwood, the world added in the expansion pack. The cemetery already has a number of decor items placed to honor the deceased, as well as plenty of empty grave sites and crypts into which you can inter the departed Sim’s remains.

At The Funeral

After this, you’ll start the funeral event at the chosen time and date, which is listed on your calendar with a floral casket icon. An hour before the start time, you’ll get a reminder to go to the location of the funeral to set up. Use the Build/Buy catalog to decorate for the funeral, using somber scenery and an assortment of different memorial items that you can customize to help remember the deceased during the event.

At the location of the funeral, you’ll need to complete Funeral Activity goals to score points throughout the event, with the ultimate goal of leading seven Funeral Activities throughout the event. The event is timed, so be sure to socialize and remember the departed in the ways you’ve chosen to do so, as each action earns you points toward the funeral’s score. The deceased’s ghost will be watching!

When the funeral is over, the Sim who organized it not only gets rewards based on the score of the funeral, but they’ll also remain on the lot to grab the urn/tombstone back. When you’re ready, you can inter the remains at a gravesite, whether that’s at the cemetery or on your home lot, or you can place them within Ravenwood’s various crypts around town.
