Classic Players Should Avoid One Common D.Va Mistake

Classic Players Should Avoid One Common D.Va Mistake

Overwatch 2 has always been unable to escape comparison with its predecessor, though it may have finally found the perfect way to put this debate to rest. Overwatch Classic is a new game mode recently released in Overwatch 2, though calling it new is a bit of an oxymoron. Overwatch Classic answers a legitimate and longstanding demand among veterans of the series, but newer players have a lot to watch out for.

Overwatch Classic allows players to access Overwatch as it existed before it was eventually delisted following the release of Overwatch 2. Some players have wanted something of this nature for quite some time, largely in response to certain controversies regarding the development and balancing of Overwatch 2. However, there’s no question that Overwatch had plenty of controversies in its own right. With this in mind, players should watch out for one unique interaction if they want to avoid an age-old mistake.

Overwatch 2 Season 13 has introduced an LTM event called Overwatch Classic, which has already begun to spark debate over a particular DPS hero.

Overwatch 2 Players Should Watch Out for D.Va’s Self-Destruct Ult in Overwatch Classic

Overwatch Classic Lets Overwatch 2 Players Relive the Glory Days

D.Va is a very popular hero in Overwatch 2, and she has often been very powerful to boot. This is for a number of reasons, which can be summarized by simply stating that there are relatively few flaws in her kit. Despite this relative level of stability, this doesn’t mean her abilities haven’t undergone any changes since the early days of Overwatch.

D.Va’s Ult is undoubtedly the standout in this regard. Not only can it be devastatingly effective in a team fight, it’s received quite a significant update in Overwatch 2. This didn’t come in the form of a huge overhaul, but an adjustment to a single feature that radically changed how players might interact with the Ult as they use it.

D.Va’s Self-Destruct Ultimate Received a Significant Change in Overwatch 2

D.Va’s Ultimate involves her leaping out of her mech, Self-Destruct used to carry much more risk for D.Va herself, so players should make sure not to use it too carelessly. Specifically, Self-Destruct used to do damage to D.Va herself if the player was still in its blast radius by the time the mech detonated.

This aspect was changed for Overwatch 2, in which players no longer have to worry about falling victim to their own Ultimate. Although this was undoubtedly an improvement to the quality of life for D.Va players, it has also received a fair deal of criticism for the impact it has had on Overwatch 2‘s tank meta. After all, it was a pretty major buff for an already powerful Ultimate, and completely removed the risk-reward system that Overwatch had put in place.

True to its name, Overwatch Classic restores D.Va’s Ult to the properties it had before the changes made by Overwatch 2. This comes with a number of other adjustments to her kit, but Self-Destruct will often be the most flashy feature to look out for. If players aren’t careful, they could wind up falling victim to their own Ultimate. This wasn’t uncommon when Overwatch was first released, but it quickly became a rookie mistake that Overwatch Classic players can more easily avoid by simply being aware of the risk at play.

Players who joined the series in Overwatch 2 may not have been aware of this kind of interaction, and even veteran players may have simply lost their muscle memory. At the end of the day, Overwatch Classic is a fundamentally different beast. Players won’t be able to transfer every skill they’ve picked up in Overwatch 2, and they’ll certainly need to freshen up on old knowledge. When it comes to D.Va’s place in Overwatch 2, understanding her Self-Destruct could be the difference between life or death.
