Kiefer Sutherland will play a character called Captain Jordan Wright, who is on leave to attend a wedding with the members of his squadron, when they get blindsided by a Mexican cartel. Wright must fight against these evil forces, and get his men back to safety. It sounds like a 90s action throwback, and that isn’t a bad thing at all. The upcoming action romp is being directed by British import, Justin Chadwick, who has carved out a successful career in television and movies. Sierra Madre is in the midst of filming on location in Colombia. An image of Kiefer Sutherland in the movie was recently released, and it caused some excitement among fans as it showed the Jack Bauer star with a submachine gun, seemingly running through a forest. It looks like a Bauer-esque performance is in the offing, and that is a very exciting prospect.

Ever since 24: Live Another Day ended with Jack Bauer being taken off by the Russians in a helicopter to an uncertain fate, fans have wanted to see Jack Bauer’s story end properly. However, ten long years have passed by, and nothing has materialized. The announcement that a 24 Movie was finally in the pre-production stages in July 2024 was enough to get fans excited at the prospect of Bauer’s return. Many months have passed by, and there haven’t been any significant updates on the project, and Sutherland hasn’t recently spoken about the chances of a return. However, Sutherland’s new action movie, Sierra Madre, does at least show that he’s more than open to a return to the action genre where he belongs.

Sutherland is fast approaching 60, but he is clearly still in great shape, and Sierra Madre could be his warm-up movie, before embarking on another bad day as Jack Bauer. For the last few years, Sutherland has swapped his acting skills for a new career as an Americana country singer, touring all over the world. His new album, ‘Grey’, is set for release in January 2025, and a new tour will probably follow it, so the 24 Movie might be a long way off yet. However, once he’s done sharing his new songs with an enthusiastic audience, as well as completing filming on Sierra Madre, it could be time for Jack Bauer to stop a global threat in the 24 Movie.
Sutherland has been trying to find a suitable action franchise since he last played Jack Bauer, with varying levels of success. Designated Survivor ran between 2016 and 2019, and it was a decent hit before it was canceled after three seasons, but Sutherland’s next two action shows didn’t fare too well. The Fugitive and Rabbit Hole were both canceled after one season, and the actor has since pivoted to more supporting roles, working with legendary Hollywood directors, William Friedkin and Clint Eastwood on The Caine Mutiny Court Martial and Juror No 2 respectively. However, 24 is Sutherland’s prized possession, and the chance to play Jack Bauer in a big screen outing will probably be too good to turn down.
