Why Rockstar Could Go Back to the Same Well Twice With Grand Theft Auto 6

Why Rockstar Could Go Back to the Same Well Twice With Grand Theft Auto 6

Grand Theft Auto 6 looms in the distance, as the long-awaited next chapter in the beloved Rockstar franchise is set to be one of next year’s biggest launches. Despite no official date being confirmed, it has been established by Rockstar that Grand Theft Auto 6 is aiming for a fall 2025 release, which has many hoping for a fresh look into the upcoming game, especially since it’s been so long since the last GTA entry.

It’s been over a decade since GTA 5 graced players with a three-protagonist approach, but this time around, GTA 6 is narrowing the focus. Dual-protagonists Lucia and Jason lead a crime-fueled story set in front of the backdrop of Vice City. The inclusion of both a female and male protagonist is an exciting first for the franchise, but it’s also likely that players will become more attached to one or the other as the game’s story continues. This is where Rockstar can dip back into the same ending method used in GTA 5, as players are given three choices for the finale, with two options resulting in the death of certain protagonists.

GTA 6 Taking Note of GTA 5’s Three Endings Could Elevate Lucia and Jason’s Roles

The Three Possible Endings of GTA 5

  • Ending A – Trevor dies
  • Ending B – Michael dies
  • Ending C (Deathwish) – Franklin, Michael, and Trevor all survive

While all three endings offer compelling ways to close GTA 5‘s story, many players gravitate toward the Deathwish ending, since it’s a much happier finale compared to Ending A and Ending B. Naturally, Rockstar will want to offer something fresh in GTA 6, but a dual-protagonist approach could actually be a more successful way to make multiple ending choices land better.

Rumors Suggest an Undercover Twist in GTA 6

All rumors and leaks should be met with a healthy amount of skepticism, but they are still compelling to ponder. When it comes to GTA 6, one of the most intriguing rumors revolves around Jason. Based around what little game promos exist for GTA 6, some fans have theorized that Jason could be an undercover cop who is sent to keep tabs on Lucia. If this turns out to be true, offering an ending that allows players to choose between Lucia and Jason surviving could bring far more of an impact than its predecessor.

The issue with GTA 5‘s three ending options is that Ending A and Ending B weren’t entirely satisfying options for the storyline leading up to the choice. However, with GTA 6‘s potential cop twist, choosing a definitive side in such a situation could present intense moral gray areas in a more successful way. GTA 6 will likely improve many features from its predecessor, and presenting ending choices more effectively would be a powerful way to one-up GTA 5‘s story.

GTA 6 Can Still Give Lucia and Jason Their Own Happy Ending

Revisiting GTA 5’s Deathwish Ending In a New Light

If there is an option to kill Lucia or Jason, a third option allowing them both to live would be highly likely. For a third and more positive ending, Jason could possibly turn on the police, giving the two a chance to go on a real Bonnie and Clyde shoot-out to end the story with a bang. The relationship between Lucia and Jason is one of the most intriguing aspects of GTA 6, and its impact on the game’s finale is one of the biggest questions waiting to be answered.

There’s no telling what the future of GTA 6 holds. From hopes that a new trailer will be revealed soon to an official release date, there is still a lot of waiting to be done. Until Rockstar confirms more, Lucia and Jason’s fates remain mysterious.
