Why November 2024 is The Time to Start Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom was the talk of the town when it came out on Nintendo Switch in May 2023, and after all the glowing reviews it received, it quickly became a frontrunner for Game of the Year. The latest mainline installment in the Zelda franchise is not only one of the most acclaimed Nintendo games ever made, it’s also one of the highest-rated games of all time. On OpenCritic, it sits at a 96/100 Top Critic Average and has a 97% Critic Approval rating. Meanwhile, on Metacritic, the game has a Metascore of 96 and a user score of 8.8/10. The only Zelda games that have higher ratings than Tears of the Kingdom are 2017’s Breath of the Wild and 1998’s Ocarina of Time.

There is no shortage of Zelda games on Switch, but The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is technically the first (and perhaps only) mainline entry in the series to be completely exclusive to the console. After all, its predecessor came out on Wii U the same day it was released on Switch. Since ToTK was designed from the ground up with Nintendo’s current-gen console in mind, it’s able to take full advantage of the system’s hardware. The vast open world and player freedom the game offers really push the Switch to its limits. ToTK‘s open-ended approach to the Zelda formula may not be for everyone, but it’s arguably one of the best Switch games ever, and thanks to an upcoming sale, November 2024 is the perfect time to pick it up.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is Going on Sale This November

Nintendo is Offering Black Friday Discounts for ToTK and Other First-Party Games

Black Friday is almost here, and to celebrate, Nintendo is offering some significant discounts on many of its biggest games, including The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. This universally-acclaimed Zelda title normally costs $70 at retail, and it’s currently the only Nintendo first-party game to have that high a price tag. Those who buy it later this month, however, will be able to get it for $50 instead. In other words, that’s $20 less than what the game is typically sold for. Considering that Nintendo games like ToTK almost never go on sale, this is a fairly sizable price reduction.

Nintendo’s Black Friday discounts will go live in the last week of November, from the 24th to the 30th. During this promotional event, gamers will be able to grab a $50 physical copy of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom at select retailers, like GameStop, Walmart, Best Buy, and Target. On the Nintendo eShop, however, the sales will go live at an earlier date. Starting on November 19, ToTK and many other Nintendo games will be available digitally for $20 off. Nintendo hasn’t clarified when the sales on the eShop will come to an end, but they’ll presumably conclude on November 30 (e.g. the last day of the month).

The Tears of the Kingdom-Themed Switch Carrying Case & Screen Protector is Getting a Discount

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom isn’t the only Zelda-related product that’s receiving a Black Friday discount. Those who are interested in buying the game may also want to check out the ToTK-themed Nintendo Switch Carrying Case & Screen Protector, which is getting a $10 price reduction. This bundle includes a screen protector for both the base Switch model and the Switch OLED, so fans won’t have to worry about getting the wrong one. It usually retails for $24.99, so a $10 discount is pretty good.

The Hyrule Edition Switch Lite Pairs Nicely With a Copy of Tears of the Kingdom

It’s worth highlighting the Nintendo Switch Lite: Hyrule Edition with Bonus Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pass Content, as well. While this $210 bundle, which includes a gold Zelda-themed console and a 12-month NSO membership, isn’t currently on sale, it can save players some money. A Switch Lite normally costs $200 and a one-year subscription to NSO is about $50, so by buying this limited-edition system, gamers will receive a savings of $39.99. The Hyrule Edition Switch would be a perfect gift to give alongside a copy of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
