We’re all eagerly awaiting the launch of the Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090, and we always knew this new gaming GPU wouldn’t be cheap, but it looks as though the price of this graphics card will be even higher than we expected. According to this leak, the RTX 5090 is going to cost significantly more than its predecessor, the RTX 4090.
Although Nvidia hasn’t officially revealed the RTX 5090 launch date yet, the company is widely expected to unveil it at the CES trade show in January 2025. With AMD leaving the high-end GPU market to Nvidia for the moment, the 5090 is very likely to be the best graphics card for gaming when it comes out, but you’re going to have to pay a lot of money to bag this flagship graphics card.
This latest rumor comes from the Chiphell forums, where a regular tech leaker, wjm47196, has started a thread called “5090 msrp.” In the first post, wjm47196 says “1999-2499 gddr7,” which we can only assume refers to the price of the card mentioned in the thread title, with the rumored 32GB of GDDR7 VRAM presumably contributing to the hefty cost.
The user also laments that “I can’t afford it anymore,” and we’re sure wjm47196 won’t be the only one if this price is correct. As always with leaks, bear in mind that this price is firmly in rumor territory, and hasn’t been officially confirmed by Nvidia, but it’s not out of the realms of possibility.
After all, while the RTX 4090 Founders Edition officially launched at an MSRP of $1,599, the Founders Edition is nearly always out of stock, and a quick look at the Nvidia website shows that board partner cards start at $1,799, and go upward from there. The Asus Strix RTX 4090 OC currently goes for $1,999, so it’s not a stretch to believe that the RTX 5090 will start at this price and go upward.
What’s more, with no direct competition, now that AMD has abandoned high-end GPUs for the moment, Nvidia can basically charge what it likes for its top-end GPU. The company could gamble that if someone can afford to pay $1,599 to get the best graphics card, then they could probably pay even more. We just all have to hope that the RTX 5080 will have a more reasonable price than the RTX 4080 when it launched, and hopefully competition from AMD will keep down the price of the RTX 5070.
