Super Mario Party Jamboree May Be the Perfect Blueprint for Mario Kart 9

Super Mario Party Jamboree could have laid out an excellent foundation for Nintendo to follow for the development of Mario Kart 9. While the two games occupy different genres, there is an awful lot of overlap in their designs and fanbases. Super Mario Party Jamboree was an exciting release for the Mario Party series, and it sets a high bar for the next game to clear. While Mario Kart 9 is still yet to be revealed, there are a few directions that it could go. Taking inspiration from Super Mario Party Jamboree could be one of its best options.

If the review scores for Super Mario Party Jamboree are any indication, it’s one of the strongest titles that the franchise has seen in years. Many of the later Mario Party titles have struggled to achieve the same acclaim as the older titles for one reason or another. Be it an overreliance on gimmicks or questionable gameplay choices, something has held many of these games back. However, as of late the games have started trying to recapture the charm of the older titles, with Super Mario Party Jamboree being the latest example. At the moment, it seems that this approach is a rousing success.

Mario Kart 9 Has a Formula to Follow in Super Mario Kart Jamboree

Super Mario Party Jamboree Brought Back Some Old Favorites

While players will find several new boards in Super Mario Party Jamboree, there are also two returning fan favorites in the form of Mario’s Rainbow Castle and Western Land. This follows up on a trend that Mario Party Superstars started, as that game featured several boards from games past. In addition to the returning boards, Super Mario Party Jamboree also features most of the playable characters from across the series, as well as a couple of new additions. Super Mario Party Jamboree manages to bring in a lot of new content while including old favorites, combining the two to great effect.

Mario Kart’s Retro Tracks are Enduring Classics of the Series

Fans both new and old should be familiar with the Mario Kart series’ retro tracks, tracks from past games that get remade for newer titles. Since that tradition has been running since Mario Kart DS, that means that Mario Kart is perfectly suited to a similar old-meets-new approach that has served Super Mario Kart Jamboree so well. After all, while Mario Kart is a racing series, the fun characters, gimmicky courses, and many items that shake up the races make it a party game in its own right. Making sure that the next game is as fun as possible should be a top priority.

Mario Kart 9 WIll Ideally Blend the Series’ Past and Future

Mario Kart 9 could reflect the best parts of Super Mario Kart Jamboree. Mario Kart 9‘s roster should offer players a wide variety of playable characters, bringing back a lot of old favorites. The same should be done with the game’s track list, making sure to bring back a lot of fantastic retro tracks alongside creative new ones. A few new power-ups and game modes would also add a welcome dash of freshness to the series. Much like Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Mario Kart 9 can bring back the best of the series while ensuring that there is plenty of new, quality content.

Ultimately, Super Mario Party Jamboree feels like the model for what Mario Kart 9 should be. There will be high expectations for Mario Kart 9 no matter what, considering the popularity of the series. The game should maximize its potential by combining the best of the series with new innovations. Old favorites will always shine, and great new tracks and characters can show that the series still has plenty to offer.
