Smite 2 Gets New Update

Smite 2 Gets New Update

Key Takeaways

  • Smite 2 is in alpha phase, allowing fans early access to the MOBA game with updates based on player feedback.
  • The most recent update includes bug fixes across various Gods, such as stealth materials not showing up and voice line issues.
  • Progress from Smite won’t transfer to Smite 2.

Hi-Rez Studios is rolling out a new patch for Smite 2 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S versions of the game. After being announced in January 2024, Smite 2 is in a closed Alpha phase where fans can sign up for early access to the third-person MOBA game ahead of its full release.

Following on from Smite, players take the form of various deities from a number of mythologies, including Anubis, Odin, and Zeus. Gamers then take their Gods into a 5v5 arena where they can take on Titans looking to destroy all of the Pantheons. Smite 2 is being built in Unreal Engine 5 and since launching into its alpha test in Spring 2024, Hi-Rez Studios has been constantly improving and updating the game based on player feedback.

The latest update for Smite 2 began rolling out on November 13 and includes several fixes across all platforms. Key fixes center around the various Gods including Izanami’s Shadow and Radiant stealth materials not showing up properly and Khepri Abduct only playing one voice line. The outer line FX for Gingersnap Baron Samedi Ult has also been fixed, with home screen music now added to the PS5 version.

These hotfixes come a few days after Hi-Rez Studios released a large patch for Smite 2 on November 11. These changes include balances to each of the Gods, a new Auto Build for the UI, and changes to the God page. The page will now show which deities will be added to Smite 2 and when they will be available.

Those waiting to experience the full experience will be disappointed to note that progress from Smite will not move over to Smite 2 due to the hours of manpower required to rebuild over 1600 skins, items, and gear in Unreal Engine 5. Even with the news that progress won’t carry over, players will undoubtedly be happy with the constant updates to Smite 2 as Hi-Rez Studios continues developing the game during the Alpha phase.

It is not clear when Smite 2 will exit its Alpha phase, but it is expected that the MOBA will be a free-to-play title when it is fully released on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. It was confirmed that Smite 2 would be skipping the Nintendo Switch due to concerns about the aging hardware affecting gamer’s experience. While that might be disappointing to some, Hi-Rez Studios isn’t ruling out bringing the MOBA to the Switch’s successor should it be suitable.
