MultiVersus' Raven Could Be The First of Many



For over two years, Player First and Warner Bros. Games have introduced multiple new fighters from numerous Warner Bros. properties in their Super Smash Bros-like fighting game MultiVersus. From cartoon classics like Looney Tunes’ Bugs Bunny to new, more adult-oriented characters such as Game of Thrones’ Arya Stark, MultiVersus has acted as a sort of celebration of all Warner Bros. media. Most of the game’s roster has been filled with iconics heroes and villains of DC Comics, including Superman and the Amazon Nubia. MultiVersus is expanding this trend with the introduction of its Teen Titans fighter, Raven, who was recently added with Season 4 of the game.

MultiVersus has a fairly strong roster nowadays, but even after some great additions in recent months, a character type is still the odd one out.

Breaking Down MultiVersus’ Raven

Being one of DC Comic’s most famous magical superheroes, MultiVersus’ Raven was designed to be a Mage/Ranged fighter. Here she can utter the incantation Azarath Metrion Zinthos to utilize some of her most famous Soul Self and chaos magic abilities, such as conjuring a soul-based raven as a short projectile and as a stationary hazard. She can further use her chaos magic to briefly hold enemies in the air in a black void, to generate a temporary energy shield, and to unleash a wave of chaos magic to engulf nearby opponents. Much like her comic book and television counterparts, Raven’s utilization of her powers is indicated by the appearance of black circles surrounding her hands.


Just as with all other fighters in MultiVersus, players can customize Raven with multiple outfits based on her various incarnations. A gameplay trailer for Raven showcased her in a standard MultiVersus outfit, in a casual outfit based on her appearance from the Teen Titans: Raven comic by Kami Garcia and Gabriel Picolo, and in an outfit based on her appearance in the animated film Justice League Dark: Apokolips War. A larger, reskinned version of Superman based on his Trigon demon-possessed form from Apokolips War is also shown fighting against Raven in the Azarath Metrion Zinthos event. When dealt enough damage, Raven’s magic will consume her, revealing her four-eyed demonic face from her father Trigon and granting a temporary boost to speed, damage output, and knockback.

Raven is equipped with 15 moves, including:

MultiVersus
currently features eight fighters from the DC Universe, the most fighters from a single property, with
Adventure Time
having the second most fighters with four total.


Raven’s Potential Influence in MultiVersus

While Raven is the first member of the Teen Titans to join MultiVersus as a playable fighter, her popularity could lead to the eventual inclusion of every Teen Titan in the game. In DC Comics, the Teen Titans are usually composed of sidekicks and other lesser known young heroes, such as Green Arrow’s sidekick Roy “Speedy” Harper, the young Amazon Donna Troy, Wally West Kid Flash, and more. However, the more common and more popular members of the Teen Titans typically include Dick Grayson Robin, Starfire, Raven, Beast Boy, and Cyborg. While this lineup did initially appear in the comics, it was popularized by the 2003 Teen Titans animated series, the 2013 Teen Titans Go! Animated series, and the 2018 Titans live action series.


Given that Teen Titans or Titans comics are still in circulation and the Teen Titans Go! series is still in production as the longest running DC show to date, it would make sense for Warner Bros. to capitalize on this popularity by introducing the rest of the Titans in MultiVersus to fight alongside Raven. Player First Games could next introduce Beast Boy, as he often has a close relationship with Raven and his ability to turn into any animal could tie in well with MultiVersus’ wacky design. MultiVersus could then introduce Robin to go alongside Batman and feature outfits of Nightwing and every other Robin. Finally, Warner Bros. could add Cyborg and Starfire as Tank and Ranged fighters to help balance out the game’s roster. While just speculation, if the newly released Raven proves popular, it would be a no-brainer to keep the Teen Titans content coming.
